Cop pulls over a convoy of Vettes.

Boy, this guy's bathing in quota relief ;)

Sheriff's Deputy Rick Miller works his way down a line of five of eight Corvettes he stopped on July 14 for speeding near Lake Crystal, Minnesota. The drivers were en route to the Black Hills Corvette Classic in South Dakota. Miller had clocked them on Highway 60 going 95 mph in a 65 mph zone.

Good for them.

Each one of those guys could chip in $50 for a decent lawyer and get all of them off. A whole flock of birds with one stone. The deputy probably drives a second-hand Caprice, and is ticked that he didn't get the 'police interceptor.' Even worse is that he knows those guys, with their fat wallets and fancy cars, who are probably off to play golf on a weekday, are probably going to be talking about what a jack-ass he is for busting them for having fun.

I love it! Haha...

I don't get any of this. You see this photo and assume two things:

1. That the guys in the Corvettes are all jerks.

2. That the cop is also a jerk. According to you, the cop was just going after people with 'fat wallets,' not busting them for doing 30MPH over the limit.

Golf? How could a lawyer get them all off?

well odds are that all but one could get off

usually the i was just keeping up w/ the leader excuse works

and the leader gets hit and the rest get off because they were just following and didnt' want to get lost.

but you dont' need a lawyer to get out of that

'I was keeping up with traffic' sometimes works. But, come on, not when you were in a convoy of eight Corvettes doing 30mph over the limit. If you're going that fast, you'd better be ready to just pay up if you get caught.

ensteele 07-17-2004 09:40 PM

I don't think these guys will get off that easy!

Honestly, how can a cop manage to pull over 8 cars at once? Its not like there was a roadblock. If one car pulls over, the cop stops to write the ticket, the other 7 keep going. And radar guns can only clock one car, so how can he pull over all 8?

ensteele 07-17-2004 10:53 PM

All he has to do is clock the last car, then pass the rest of them and pull them all over. All of the cars are written up for the speed of the last car. Aircraft can also clock all of them the same way. :) Aircraft will also get an average speed of all of them.

Guard-TL- 07-17-2004 11:15 PM

lets see..............8 corvettes........1 cop......if you think about it, ones he starts stopping one of them( usually the front car) the rest can just slow down and then drive away like nothing happened....

Unless of course all those ****s are rich as hell, and just don't care....or don't want to listen to the dude's *****ing later...... :p

UberRoo 07-18-2004 03:05 AM

I just think it's funny. A good lawyer [read: expensive] can get them off. If they all send their tickets off to the same lawyer, they will all get heard at the same time. A decent lawyer will argue the case once, precedent has been set, and the judge will dismiss all of them.

I bet each party is pissed off at the other. The guys in the Corvette think the cop is a twit, and probably have a bunch of reasons why they think he's "compensating for something" or whatever. The cop probably thinks the same thing about the guys with the Corvettes; that maybe just that they're also a bunch of twits who love flaunting their money by driving expensive cars and playing golf while everyone else is at work, inasmuch as the cop loves his little power trip. Both parties are probably right, or at least have good cause to believe they are even if it's not true.

The whole thing is a farce. The Corvette drivers couldn't care less about the cop, and the cop may as well just go home because these guys can, (and probably will,) hire a good lawyer.

As far as going thirty over, who freakin' cares? They're performance cars. They go fast. That's what they're built for. If a tractor-trailer rig can go 65, then there's no reason a Corvette shouldn't be able to go twice that with just as much safety, as it's performance envelope is probably more than double that of a big rig. Who are they really hurting? Breaking the law, yes - but the law, rigid though it may be, is not always right.

How do you pull over more than one? You drive by each of them one at a time, point to them, and signal them to follow you to the shoulder of the road. It's actually fairly easy for a cop to do, and I don't recommend ignoring the cop as he passes you, because he will get your attention one way or another.

ensteele 07-18-2004 09:23 AM

I still don't understand how golf gets into this situation.

SHISVX 07-18-2004 10:54 AM

a speed limit is in place to keep the roads safe (or so they say)

there are many cars that can go over the speed limit safely, but that really doesn't matter, they broke the law, they should all have tickets

a cop would have had a field day at the svx meet with all of the fast drivers, just because they are having a "flock meet" doesn't give them the right to decide what speed they will go.

a good lawyer can get someone out of a ticket in almost any situation.

and Earl, they all were probably wearing golf shirts :D

They were doing 30 over. If they were doing 10 or 15 even, I'd say they have a good chance of getting out of it. But not at 30. Its gonna be tough to get the judge to overlook that.
