Generators

I was wondering if anyone on the board has installed or had some say in the installation of a generator that switches over in case of power failure for a small home.

Probably have to calculate how much juice I would need.

I lost power on Sunday due to weather and thought to myself, this is the last straw while freezing my ass off (no heat since I don't use natural gas).

Looking for some good manufacturers with great reputation.

you missed your opportunity - after Y2K, people were unloading them like crazy! :D

i'm sure Honda's are good, but you'd probably rice it out with raw furry scoops and stuff.

http://www.generac.com/
Generac makes some great units using either Kohler or Briggs & Straton motors.

As far as sizing, Generator Joe http://www.generatorjoe.net/page.asp?id=40
will help you decide what size you need.

You're likely to need something more than a Briggs and Stratton-powered generator to provide to any sort of capacity for home heating. Even a single radiant space heater draws lots of juice.

Maybe something like this:

big time, major league generator

The bigger ones use the Kohler engines.
I thought he had oil heat, not electric. With electric heat you will need a BIG generator.
