Where does my PS fluid go???
About every 3-4 weeks I have to pour in more Dexron 3 to fill it back up. I know where my oil is going (through the leaky seals), but what could be leaking on the PS system? I've replaced a few high pressure hoses on my past cars, but that's because they were over 20 yrs old. Anyone have any ideas on how to track it down?

Hi :)
I haven't had this problem yet. I remember from reading other threads it's going into the rack boots. They recommend Lucas PS additive to stop the leak. Add it before it's too late. |
I've had to replace PS return lines on both cars. They leak slow for a while but I never really saw any drips under the car.

Possibilities:
O-ring in pump hoses (high and low pressure) from pump to rack rack itself I had to replace my rack because it was leaking so bad. Went ahead and replaced the high and low pressure lines at the same time. -Bill |
I replaced the O ring when I got my car. How would I tell if its the rack, or the hoses?

Get your car up on a lift, spray everything off (Simple Green, Brake Cleaner, etc. -- make sure everything has cooled down first), wipe it down, then run the car and see where the fluid is coming out.

turn the wheel lock to lock when you do this to send some pressure through the system if you don't see any leaks right away

I'm drooling over an STi short ratio steering rack. I want one in my SVX badly. I'm sure it could be modified to fit. :D

I had the same problem b4 then one day I wake up to go to work and I couldnt pull out to the driveway
anyway you should check the 2 hoses behind the engin they are bend too hard and thats what caused it to leak you should replace them also I bend the pipe comming out of the penion to the back to make the angle 90 degree between the 2 ends and since then no problem at all |
