General SVX Question

Ok, this is my first post. I have been lurking here for quite a while but i finally bought the bullet and registered.

I plan on purchasing a SVX within the next year or so.

My question is fairly simple. I am not a small person, at 6'4" 320 lbs with a size 14 Shoe. Will I fit in an SVX?

My current car is a 1995 Caprice with the police package, you can see it in action here:

http://home.insightbb.com/~grstevens80/Dyno_Drag.WMV

As you can see, it is not stock

343 HP to the wheels .... that translates to about 400 at the crank. It is in the shop for it's 3rd transmission right now. Not sure if the SVX will by an all season daily driver or a replacement for my caprice.

Thanks for your help

This is just my opinion. As you can see by my post count, I'm just a rookie. ;) Honestly, if you're gonna have "the need, the need for speed," and you're going to continue to drag your car, then, keep the Caprice for drag racing, and use the SVX for your daily driver. Otherwise, if you're that hard on trannies :D, you'll be replacing them once per week. :D

If you've been lurking for some time, you'll know that the SVX is not a racer, but a tourer. Sure, you can modify it to the extent that you have $$ to throw at it (and still not become a competitive racer), but, the SVX is best enjoyed for what it is. As the cars begin to age, and parts become more scarce, the SVX is a car you want to take care of.

Just my two cents.

I'm right at six feet tall, and I believe my seat's about as low as it'll go, and if I sit-up really straight, my head brushes the headliner, just barely.

And I agree fully with the points Aredubjay raised.

I wear a size 10 steal toe boot. I find that with sneekers and stuff I'm fine, but with a steal toe and a 8in high, it's a little annoying getting in and out. I think its mostly the 8in thats the problem. It doesnt allow me to straighten out my angle getting in. I have to twist it the the side. Once in I'm fine. I'm 5'8" and 196lbs. I'm comfortable, but I've got the seat all the way back and reclined. You may be a little uncomfortable after having the room of the Caprice. I think we have a few other members that are about your size that claim they are fine. It does have more room then my Eclipes and any honda. I'd say it close to the size of the Mustang I had, maybe just a hint smaller. All I can say is see if there is one nearby to try on for size.

Ah, I forgot to answer that question ---- you might search Kuoh3/s posts. If I recall, he's 'round 6'3" and seems to fit the car well. We should have a few more "TALL" members pipe in here. I know there are some. I'm 5'9", so, I'm not much help there. :D

I'm over six feet tall, but mostly legs (they go up to my arpits) so I don't have a problem with head room - usually for me the tough part is finding a drivign position that's comfortable for my legs, but doesn't leave me reaching too far for the wheel. Luckily the SVX's wheel telescopes.

As for feet, I wear a size 13 and I don't have any problems stumbling over the pedals.

I second Randy's comments about the SVX as a drag racer. It's just not made for it, and the aftermarket isn't there to help you turn it into what you want.

im 6ft tall and i fit perfectley in my SVX. Even with the seat all the way up.

I'm 6' 2", a lanky 160lbs and wear a size 12 shoe and the SVX fits me just fine. However, I do have an L model w/o a sunroof.

When I drove two SVXs this past weekend w/ sunroofs, I did notice that available headroom was somewhat diminished by ~1". There is also a fair amount of space availble in front as well as decent seat travel, so you should be able to get comfortable.

BTW, welcome to the site! :)

You should ask Matt, Nordique14.... he's... well.... he's not a little guy....... ;)

I was not planning on the SVX being a drag car.

My caprice is not just a drag car

www.cardomain.com/id/notacop

It is an all round. I have lots into the suspension for handling as well.

I am not thinking of this as a replacement for my caprice at the track. I am tired of the "make a heavy car go really fast" money pit that my chevy is.

I want something comfortable, good for all 4 seasons, decently peppy, enough torque so that I don't shoot my self in around town driving, and with an affordable buy in (i.e. under 7K)

I will probaby just keep my caprice, but park it for a while, it is paid off so it is not costing me much to just let it sit.

Anybody around central, IL want to let me sit in their car. Maybe take me for a spin so I can see if I want to buy one?

If this helps:

Im right at 6'0.. and Sence I got the nice power seats...
The front part of the seat all the way up, back part of the seat
3/4 down, and the backrest slightly leaned back.
my ONLY disadvantage, is at some traffic lights, i stop little before
the line, cause by then, I can only see the bottom of the stoplight!

But hey... thats all i need to see... when to "GO!" hehehe ;)

I'm 6' 2" at 235 and your legs get a little but not badly cramped on long trips. I just hit the cruise control and stretch a bit. I have already given thought for extensions on the seat mount, but that would'nt help much. Really it's not that bad. My wife says there isn't too many tall japanese, ha ha so that's why us tall ones are a little pinched. ;)
