belt squeek? WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have a sliping belt and i just got it back from the shop. could this be a result of thermal expansion/shrinkage and the general loss of friction due to cold? do i have to get my car looked at again or can i wait till spring? I CANT TAKE THE NOISE. AHHHHHHHHHHHH it sounds like i have a million rodents stuck in bear traps under my hood.

What work did the shop just do to your car ?
could be lots of things and could be one of 2 belts.
Could also be one of the tensioners dry or wearing out

they replaced not only the idler pully but the entire plate the pully mounts to (the shop i used to go to over tightned the belt so much that it bent up everything.) it work fine for about a week then it started to snow and get rainy and cold and bam, horid screeching that would make a sane man homicidal. (im not by any means sans so you can imagine what its doing to me every time i start it) its worse right when i start it and after abut 10-20 min of driving it subsides to a point.

Sounds like they installed the wrong size belt...
but only maybe 1/4" or so....but Id take it back
and let them hear it, ...pull it off, check the size and get
one about .50" shorter

i'd take it to a dealer, because this place sounds like a Mickey Mouse operation.

Ive known some "dealers" to be mickey mouse too..
Not to mention you already paid the others guys to fix
your car.....go back and have them rectify the problem
and get what you paid for if you ask me.

I'm guessing they fouled up the tensioner on the PS bracket because they forgot to loosen the position lock before attempting to loosen the tensioner. It's pretty much the only way you could screw up that bracket. Are you sure they replaced both the bracket and the idler? They should both look new. If they did replace them, are you sure they installed it properly and the pulleys are lined up with the crank pulley?

Another possibility is that the idler pully on the AC belt is going out as well. I had this one lock up making that shrill squeal for a minute, until it snapped and went into one of the radiator fans.

and take with you what Kuoh suggested and
you should be fine.
They may even learn something

Maybe they didn't tension the new belt as much as they should, due to the previous trouble. Now that it has bedded in, its sipping, just needs retensioning .

Harvey. ;)

Check the tension yourself, if it's fine then perhaps one of the accessories or idlers is worn out?
