ES Sway bushings - TROUBLE
 

GRRRRRR......:mad: :mad: I have been trying to install these sway bushings for the last 3 hours and I am very frustrated... I have managed to slip them on the sway bar and the slit down the side closes up nicely (18mm hole seems right), but the OEM bracket bolts dont line back up and I cant pry, flex, squeeze the stupid thing to get a couple threads on. Do I have to grind down the outside of the bushings a little or something? I made the cut in the bushing for the frame on passenger and everything looks great except for that. They are the ES 11/16" bushings... Please help I am very as it is 2am and I have given up... I should have done my tranny filter and other stuff, that would probably been a cakewalk compared to these stupid things...:rolleyes:

Are we talking about the front or rear swaybar bushings? The rears are no problem at all. Just slip them on and bolt them up.

The fronts are trickier. You have to cut a notch (about 1'4" or so) in the bushing and use the stock brackets and bolts. Use the edge of a file or a hacksaw to do this.

Hope this is your problem. They won't line up without slight modification. Ask svxfiles for more accurate information on this. He did my 96 without any problems.

Small world... I was about to post about that last night. I ran into some trouble doing it last night as well. I ended up only doing one because I busted my finger trying to loosen the swaybar bolt and I had so much trouble getting it to line up correctly. I used a screwdriver to move the bushing and line up the holes and then took a pair of locking pliers to hold the adapter there.

But man... what a PITA...

P.s. I find that if you had one side jacked up it would put way too much pressure on the bar, and it was much easier if both sides were jacked up or take a piece of wood and 2nd jack to move the wheel up a little bit to compress the spring. Then it made the fitment easier.

Yeah I cut the notch in the passenger side, I dont think you have to in the drivers do you? I just slid that bushing up against the metal ridge... Anyhow I have had some rest and am not so pissed off at the stupid thing. :) I am thinking maybe one of those ratchet style clamps might work? I have tried using a screwdriver to pry it close but I cant seem to get the threads to line up that way. very frustrating... Oh well back at it again, maybe I will drive it out to my Subaru mechanic with one bolt on the mount? hehe

If you use my front sway bar bushing adapter with the ES 9.5122G, everything goes together very nicely.

grind the side of the bushing just enough until the metal bracket fits on snug but doesn't bend outwards.

When mine are made they will fit perfectly!

Trouble is...they are not made yet. :D

That's just what I did, and it worked perfectly. I was confused reading about the problem here. What number bushing is the problem?

I managed to squeeze the oem clamp down to match the bolt hole and lined it up using needle nose vise grips but it was a pain in the arse. I used the 9.5105 ES Bushings Btw.... Thanks for all the help guys
