Failed State Emissions

So my 93 didn't pass emissions this year, which is could be no surprise considering the NJ MVS folks were hitting the rev limit for over a minute. So now I have two weeks to figure out what could be the problem before it is illegal for me to drive around with it.

Besides the possibility of a faulty O2 sensor and perhaps the catalytic converter needing to be replaced (I dread that), I was wondering if maybe the ECUTune Stage One can help with emissions? The inspection report showed a HC ppm of 350 while the state minimum is 220 and CO% of 1.36 while the minimum is 1.20%.

Also, if I do buy the Stage 1, is the firmware up to date or do I also need to purchase the 2 8bit updated ROMs? In case you look at my last post and wonder what happened I ended up not getting a whole new catalytic setup and instead had someone who welded on a set of flanges on the rusted side, it seemed more reasonable to do that at the time but maybe I shall come to regret that.

Seems like you are just a little off . You could try replacint the flanges with this.

Others have done it

I couldn't get my 96 to pass the Colorado emissions either until I installed a set of magnets on my fuel lines. I know it sounds a bit like alchemy but it does work. I have had no problems passing since I installed the magnets. If you want more specifics shoot me a PM. I can take a couple photos so you can see what they look like and where they are installed.

Re: Failed State Emissions

i have actually seen magnets help, it was because debris from a failing fuel pump was going through the lines and restricting the injectors. ended up replacing the fuel pump a short time later and the bottom of the tank was filled with metal shavings that were probably what used to be the worn brushes. keep an eye on your pump.
