Headsets Recommendation
I just got wacked with a $130 ticket yesterday for talking on a handheld in NJ, so I guess I need to breakdown and get one of those horrible sounding, uncomfortable, ugly headsets. (I didn't realize NJ had that law too)
Can someone recommend one for me under $100 that is not horrible sounding? I have the iPhone 3 if that matters. |
Re: Headsets Recommendation
I got a cheap Plantronics one for ~$40 that I use when I head up to NY. I don't often use it, but it is there so that I can say I was...
When I got my ticket in NY I fought it. I lost, but after two hearings between the justice, the DA, the clerk and everything else, I took away the fundraising effect. Is it a primary offence in NJ also? Or were you nabbed for something else? |
Re: Headsets Recommendation
get a head unit with Bluetooth, or one of those Parrot hands-free devices.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg the headsets are awkward, and make you look like a douchebag. |
Re: Headsets Recommendation
Anybody know - is there a Parrot model or something similar that doesn't require a car stereo? You know, in case there's a boost gauge where a stereo would be?

Re: Headsets Recommendation
Yeah it is a primary, the cop was a complete a-hole. I felt like this should have been just warning since I don't live in the state and PA doesn't have that law.

Re: Headsets Recommendation
Yeah that Parrot ain't happening, too much money and I really don't want to hardwire anything in. Even though I totally agree, that the headsets suck and make you look like you are in Star Trek.

Re: Headsets Recommendation
how do they actually prove it? I've been pulled over years ago and the cop asked me if I was on the phone (I was speeding) and I simply said no. What are they going to do???? take your phone? Your next reply to them should be "get a warrant"

I didn't realize that it was illegal in NY, so when he asked I said, "yes I was". |
Re: Headsets Recommendation
Washington State is too. They use speed traps every mile or so on the freeway in my area. I still see people using their cell phones held up to their ear. If you have it on speaker and are holding it in front of you, that is ok. They couldn't eliminate push to talk service or Nextel.

Re: Headsets Recommendation
I already got two of these tickets here in NJ.
I went right to best buy after the 2nd ticket and bought a Plantronics headset. A little pricey, but it has good features and long talk time: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Plantron...ooth&cp=1&lp=3 |

Re: Headsets Recommendation
In front of the justice it is cop's word versus yours. Someone needs to pay to have the robe dry cleaned so guess who win's.
From my experience, this is more about making money than it is about public safety. When you drive into NY State on Rte 81, there are signs about wiper usage, seatbelt usage construction safety, etc. But NOTHING about cell phone usage. (I have the photo's to prove it) If it was a secondary offence and I was doing anything else that warranted a stop, I would have gladly payed without fighting. But the cop told me that I did nothing else wrong. The way the law is written in NY is pointless. According to the law, I could have driven through town texting taking notes with one hand, coffee in the other and he wouldn't have had any reason to stop me. But since I had a phone to my ear, it's a primary offence and he can stop me. I knew I wasn't going to win the appeal, and I knew that it would end up costing me more in fuel and time to make two trips back to the ****ty little town of Dryden. But by the time they paid for the court clerk, court officer, justice, and DA for two hearings and the cop for one hearing they didn't profit from my ticket. And they don't need to have any equipment calibrated. |
