intake and throttle body cleaning?
i would like to take off my intake manifold to do some extensive cleaning. roughly how long should this process take? would i need new gaskets, and or any other lil things i should upgrade? any recomendations on cleaning inside the intake manifold and throttle body? special chemicals? do i pose a threat to never having my car run properly again?

As a warning this is a pain in the ass the first time you do it. It takes time.
Use valvoline synthetic throttle body cleaner spray. It is the best. I would have new intake manifold gaskets ready - the metal linings like to pop out of the old ones. You can reuse them if you are careful but it would be better to change them. Have some 1/8th" rubber vacuum hose ready. You can get this in bulk sections in most auto parts stores. You will find many of the vacuum hoses very brittle underneath the intake. Be very careful when pulling off the vacuum hoses - the plastic connections are also usually very brittle. This is a great time to change the PCV valve. Check out this thread for more info. http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...nifold+removal |
I was also impressed with the results when I used Mercury Powertune to clean my throttlebody.

Yeah the PCV valve is the culprit usually. |
