EXHAUST options

I would like to replace the one piece pipe and resonator that runs from the Catalytic Converter back to the Muffler on My 96 SVX LSi. It seems to me that a custom exhaust could be fabricated with a straight pipe bent to fit. Would this cause excess emissions, resonance, or unacceptable noise?

NYS DOT has adopted the California emission standards and the OEM part is more than $400 bucks. One local Muffler shop I contacted has concluded that ONLY the OEM pipes can be used.

Your personal experience, thoughts and suggestions about custom exhaust systems for the SVX are solicited.

in that case, why not stick with OEM? small price to pay to keep the car on the road.

If you just delete the resonator it will have no affect on emissions. That's the cats job.
My '92 has a straight pipe with no resonator and it sounds great. No droning or adverse noises.

Had mine that was shot removed and replaced with a strait pipe:

Passed CT emissions no issue, it just looks like a cat, its not actually an emission part.
