8 Speed CVT in SVX

Anyone ever tried a CVT install in our cars? I am thinking through some radical mods to my car to make it a much smoother driving car. I have a new outback with CVT and once you get use to it I prefer it over other transmission types. The fuel economy is amazing as well.

That probably falls in the it will physically fit but what an electronic nightmare category of mods.

Interesting idea though. I once concidered trying the drivetrain out of a Tribeca, but got the wrong person on the phone when I called Subaru, and he had no idea what an SVX even was.

Funny.

Controlling the CVT would be difficult. You'd need a custom TCM of some sort.

I don't trust the CVT to be strong enough to handle the H6 yet. There are too many reports of 60-100k CVT failures behind a 2.5 H4. Our 2015 CVT feels way better than the 2010 or 2012, but time will tell.

Yes it looks like it would physically fit to me. The transmission control module would be the hurdel to overcome. I do like the CVT though. Will keep looking into this to see what I can come up with.

well I hope nobody would put Subaru 1st gen Justy CVT in one…..:( (rubber bands in that thing)
Yeah the newest is an improvement over gen2 CVT, which gen2 is TRILLIONS OF TONS BETTER than a Justy CVT……

My oem trans is my 97 is pretty smooth I can only imagine how luxury car like it would be with a cvt.
