power antenna removal?

I've tried several times to find how to remove the power antenna shaft but can't seem to figure it out. Sometime in the past the antenna got crimped at the base and wont receed fully into the car. I need to know how to get it removed so i can replace it or repair it. ANyone know how to do this?

Thanks

i was afraid that was how you do it. I tried this before and all it seemed to do was damage the car, the thing didnt even move. But i will try it again. Thank you for the quick response.

Take your time. I used one hand to hold down the two screwdrivers, but I needed that hand for the photo.

They can be really tight, so just go slow.

Any suggestion if the antenna is stuck in the UP position, since I won't be able to get the pliers to both the little screwdrivers? :)

My antenna too was stuck a little in the up position so i couldn't do the pliers thing, so I fashioned a device out of a coat hanger and vice grips, I cut a small length of hanger then bent it in a loop till the 2 ends came together
then i made a right angle on each of the ends pointing down and used a pair of small vice grips to keep a good handle on it. Hope this helps anyone who was in my situation.

I can kinda envision that, but, do you have pics? :)

A picture is worth a thousand words...
