New '97 owner

Hi,
A quick introduction and hi from a long time SVX watcher (and forum lurker) that has taken the plunge and picked up a '97 Ebony with 171,000 km from another forum participant, SP-X.

It's a Canadian model car and I'm the 4th owner that has moved it back to it's home province of Saskatchewan. It's been very well cared for and is in great order. But I'm sure I'll be asking for advice as time goes on, and I hope that I can reciprocate.

It is showing a CEL right now that I suspect is related to a low coolant level on the way home. It's going into the shop in 2 days to get sorted out.

I'll post a photo ASAP.

Cheers,
Rod.

Welcome Rod. Good to have you here. Sounds like it will be up to par in a very short time. :)

Howdy neighbour! :)

There's also a Canadian 97 here in Winnipeg. I've known about it for 12 years now. There's also a couple SVX owners in Regina, however, I haven't communicated with them in a long time and it's possible they may have moved on.

Hi,
I looked at a red one near Regina a few years back and there used to be several in Saskatoon but I've not seen any for a while. Apparently mine came originally from Regina before moving to Alberta around 2004.

Thanks for the welcomes, and yes, gotta like the STi wheels. Not sure if I'd wouldn't prefer silver but these are growing on me.

I've a '94 Legacy wagon for kid hauling years ago, an '06 STi during a "mid-life opportunity", and we now also have an '08 Forester, so it was time to try the SVX. What a neat car!

I have a set of silver ones on my blue car and I'm looking for another set for my black '97 that's priced right.

Someone posted this color, which I think I'll try to go with:

I think of the 3 colors the dark grey looks best on a black SVX.

Congratulations and welcome Rod. Always nice to see another Canadian SVX, especially a '97. The only other Canadian Ebony '97 I have seen is being parted out in Surrey (Vancouver BC) by Dan. If you need any parts for her he has listed it on this forum.

Re: New '97 owner

Thanks all for the welcome.

I had the safety inspection done today so I'm plated and good to go!

Also got the CEL sorted -- it was the O2 -- and the rad fans are working, so life is good.

Cleaned up the faded headlight lenses with Novus scratch polisher and they're much better.

Anyone autocross their SVX's? I used to run the STi and will likely give this a try to get a handle on the handling.

Cheers!

I've run mine many times at auto-x. With the auto the car will push quite a bit. After putting in the WRX 5MT and Koni/GC's it's much more balanced.

Re: New '97 owner

Rod,
Congrats on the new ride - enjoy that '97. There's not many left out there. I also have a '97 (US model, of course) as well as the '92 Pearly I autocross. I would really like to see more people autocross the SVX. While it is a mite "heavy" to be a good autocrosser, it is a lot of fun, especially if one puts on the Koni's as Earthworm and I have done. Changes the car to a huge degree - doesn't drive the same at all!

Check out my PhotoBucket albums for some autocross pics and video. The 2010 / 2011 autocross albums have some video from my on-car camera that you may enjoy as well (but you'll have to dig through the albums to find them, which are titled appropriately). The link is the following:

Let us all know how your autocrossing with the SVX goes!

Harry

Re: New '97 owner

Thanks Harry and earthworm for the a/x tips.

But, first, there are still bugs to sort out. It threw me another CEL tonight and the radio stopped working. The radio fuse is good and there is static noise but the tuner seems to have quit. The CD player still works.

And I picked this car because I didn't want a project... :(

Re: New '97 owner

The CD player still works with sound? I'm thinking the antenna became disconnected either by the headunit or at the antenna itself.

Do you have a code reader to pull the code?
