starts runs rough and dies. I can keep it running but runs real rough.

I have two 1992 SVX’s
One is great but the other one started with this. Driving on the freeway it would caugh and the check engine light would come on. Would run a little rough and when off the freeway at a stop light would die. Started easy but would run rough and have to keep rpm up to keep it running. If I stop it might die. Ready to travel in a few minutes it would start and run great. It got worse. Now it starts cold, check engine light stays on, and rpm goes to about 1200. (Normal), but runs a few seconds and rpm goes slowly down to ZERO. Now the check engine light will never go off if the ignition switch is on, Runs rough all the time and will always die without my help at low (idle) rpm . I have taken it to 3 different Subaru dealers, and I am sure you all know the result! They put the analyzer on it and still have no clue. I don’t want to play their guessing game! Any suggestions? Thanks. Keister7..keith@ourlifeline.net

check the MAF (do a search of this site) - short answer is press down on the top of the MAF and see if anything changes with the way the car behaves. You can also wiggle the connector going into the MAF to see if it causes any changes.

So, the Subie dealers are hooking up a Select Monitor and not pulling any codes? That doesn't make sense if the CE light is staying on.....

I agree with Bill. If the CE light is coming on,it is storing a code, some sensor somewhere is not up to scratch.

The MAF would be prime suspect in a bad running case.

Do a search here and pull the codes yourself. Also, since you have two SVXs, why don't you swop out the MAF from the good one into the one that is running rough? If it cures the problem you know the solution instantly.

[It could of course be a bad loom or connector for the MAF circuit which would still need further investigation, but try the component first seeing as how you have one handy]

sounds like the same thign mine was doing and it was the MAF if you got two subbies grab the MAF from the other one and put it in the "chaoking" car see if it runs straight if it does it's the MAF.

Did you pull the codes yet?

Yeah, any luck, Keith?

Thanks to Bill, Joe, Tong and Svxistentialist
For taking the time to help me. We have a busy life and since I do have 2 SVX's ( one that runs great ), I didn't take the time to switch the components! ( Takes about 2 minutes ) LOL It worked loke a dream so now I am needing to find a person that has parted out a SVX that I can get a working MAS from! Again, thanks for taking the time to help me!!
