WHat baby seats, if any fit good in the SVX?

I have a little girl coming in November, so I need to figure out baby seats what I can put in the SVX that will work good.

Oh well, you have to have a rear facing capsule and you have to mount it in the back seat. You pretty much have to fold forward the passenger seat in order to do that. The capsules needs a lot of space. Which brings the question where you or the spouse will ride. The only possible spot left is behind the driver, which is a bit fun to get into or out of.

On the brighter side, you will get more fit physically and baby will outgrow the capsule within a year. Forward facing seats require less space - you'll be able to use front passenger seat.

Disclaimer - never mounted child seat in the X, have two seats in the other cars.

I have mounted a booster as well as a forward facing harness seat in my SVX before I got rid of her. I'm a child safety seat technician on my department. We just did a car seat check this morning. Never mount any seat in front of an airbag, and keep all children 12 and under in the back if possible. The rule for forward facing is 1 and 20. Meaning over 1 year of age AND over 20 pounds. Under that must be rear facing. Always check the car seat for labels as well as the intruction manual for hieghts and weights. The child should not extend above the seat.

What I found is that a babies r us they sell this car seat ratchet that attached to the lower part of the belt and it tightens the seat/ carrier down snug with no movement. I've used it on two children in the svx and it works great. I'll try to get the name off the item. Congrats on the child

Good info. I was missing the top strap bracket when I got my SVX, luckily AFbeefcake had a new one he was willing to sell. Now I'll head over to Toys R Us and pick up one of those ratchets as my daughters safety seat is still a little loose on the bottom.

what yr is your Svx ?

because the 92-93 REAR belts are differnet then the
94+ cars.
The 94s are a better design and make it easier to install
the seat properly.
Alcyone Girly has a 11 month old, Austen :)
and a blue 94, Ill find her and have her post what she's
been using.
Congrats on the baby !! thats awesome

Just so you know, that rachet device is also sold at Target (and probably WallyWorld) as well as Toys/Babies-R-Us.

Here is my Jr. back in the old days in his backwards seat/base combo.

It fits, but you need to jam some towels in there to get it to level out right. Then you can lean into it and get the base down really tight as you are supposed to.

Mine is a 93, and I've used the forward facing ones too once he grew enough. The front seat person has to slide the seat up a bit, but it can be done to fit that rear facing in there.

Link didn't work for me, any chance you could put a copy of the pic in your locker??

Stevebsy 08-27-2004 09:13 PM

linky better now

Rotorflyr 08-28-2004 10:55 AM

Thanks, rear facing booster's seem to fit about like I thought they would (have a little one myself, who I hope will soon be riding in the rear of an SVX)
So how old is jr. now?

Stevebsy 08-29-2004 10:46 AM

Well, he just turned 5 now, so he is now just using the height booster seat thingy which is an easy fit. The forward facing seats fit w/o problem.

The rear facing is the hardest one because they have to be nearly level, and with the angle of the rear seat, you need to 'fill' in the seat with rolled up towels to get the base in flat.

This reminds me of a time when I was a kid and seatbelt use was just a suggestion. My parents were pulled over because the cop thought they had 4 people in the front seat of their car.

Well my parents were in the front and I was standing on my head in the middle with my legs sticking up. Safety sure has changed since then!
