Can I drop tranny pan and replace filter myself?

Is it hard to drop the pan and clean of the magnet thing and replace the inside filter? Or do you have to be experienced and stuff? I've already ordered the Filter Kit, new pan gasket, and inside-of-the-tranny filter. I had to get it from Subaruparts.com because 1stsubaru wasn't able to sell it to me ('they're not my local dealer') and Subaru here tried getting the recall kit but the Subaru warehouse in Atlanta refused to send it to the dealer here. If I go to Florida I might have to pay them a visit...

It's not hard at all. All the bolts are accessible, though a few are partially obstructed, by the exhaust if I remember right. Get a pair of safety glasses and let the engine cool overnight. Once you get the pan off, there are a couple of pipes that you'll need to unbolt and pull off to get to the filter. I just wish I had bought the filter beforehand like you did, but at least it looked fairly clean.

I had a difficult time pulling the pipe out of mine. The car was moving up and down about 8" as I pulled on it but it came eventually.
