Does this car have auto or manual seat belts? I think it is a 93, not a 94 by the production dates. I could be wrong. :) |

The S40 model spec ran from Nov '93 to July '94 as stated above. The car is registered in England as being a '94 registered car. As an import both in England or in Ireland the car becomes registered here based on the date of original registration in Japan. This firmly implies the car was first registered in the home market in Japan in 1994. You will appreciate with the Model dates listed above this allows a very narrow window regards the original registration. Having said that, there is absolutely no reason to assume that the car was both built in 94 and registered in 94. It's totally possibly it was built in '93 and later registered to the first owner in Japan in '94. If you look at the VIN of my '95 car you will see it is almost certain it was built in '93! Just as a "for instance" I'm sure, if you check, that practically all of the cars registered in the US as '92 model cars were actually built in Gunma in '91, then stockpiled and shipped in anticipation of the demand after launch. ;) Oh, one last thing. No JDM market car ever got automatic seat belts. To the best of my knowledge only the USA got that type of seatbelt. Joe :) |
Re: 94 Svx
About the seat belts, I remember that now. The other points are most likely true as well. Just was my first thought and wondered. The interesting thing is that the Liquid silver was only produced in 92, so I thought maybe it was released in 93 as well and not in 94. :o

You say the Liquid Silver was only produced in '92? Have you information from Fuji or Subaru to back this up, or are you basing it on the fact that Liquid Silver was only available to the US market in '92? There is a very discrete difference between the two possible scenarios. Looking at the Japanese home market Liquid Silver was one of the colours available in the launch models that ran from Sept '91 to November '93, so safe to presume Liquid Silver was available all that time. In November '93 the Japanese produced their Anniversary model, which is my S40, and the only available colours were Peacock Blue, which we know as Dark Teal, and Liquid Silver. So effectively Liquid Silver is actually the longest available colour in Japan, running from Sept '91 to July '94. This conflicts somewhat with your statement that the Liquid Silver colour was only produced in '92. When we have more information to populate the database, what colours went where will hopefully become more clear. Joe :) |
Re: 94 Svx
You got me on that one Joe. You are right, they produced different colors for different parts of the world and the year didn't have much to do with it. :o

What I find excellent in the register you are keeping is the linearity of the production numbers. I'm predicting [with only a hunch to back this up!] that production numbers for each year will run one number sequence only per production year. What will change are the other parts of the VIN, the parts that apply to different export or internal markets. What we may see when we have enough information is that the line would have been reserved for a month or whatever was required to build all the '93 Red Anniversary models for the US. Then it would have reverted to making Japanese models, or Euro or maybe Australian, and continuing on the same number sequence. Each country specific VIN code will be produced with the colour options available for that country that year, including the upholstery options and so on. It's all very interesting and thanks for collating the information. Joe :) |

Sanosuke
1994 SVX LSi AWD Laguna Blue 171,000 miles Current location is Avondale Az, bought and driven in PA for 14 years. Removed the back of the interior and plan on going all out soon. STi BBS rims and a set of cheap rims for off road use. Royal Purple engine oil. I bought this car from my father who received it new as a birthday gift from my mother. He did not take very good care the out side but Pa weather and road treatment is not very forgiving anyway. Car looks bad but I'm working on it... RUNS GOOD! |
Re: 94 Svx

Re: 94 Svx
Hi everybody,
I am new here and what a great forum this is. I bought my SVX 3 weeks ago and got a lot of usefull information from your site. It was first put on the road here in Switzerland on March 1998 and has only 40.000 Kms (25.000 miles) on the clock. As it is a 1994 model year, I guess it served as a show-room car and/or demonstrator for some years. Condition is as new as you might expect with this low mileage. It is an AWD in bordeaux pearl with VIN: JFI CXW LEO RG 005149. Cheers form Geneva, brit-tic:) |
Re: 94 Svx
brit-tic welcome to the forum. It would be nice if you can post pictures of your SVX. :)
