LED tail lights/stop/turn

OK, I am looking at replacing the factory 1157 bulb style lights with LED ones. My question is: has anyone done this yet? And secondy, will this cause problems with the stock turn signal flasher and or the stop lamp failure indicator on the dash?

Any information would help.

I've done it. Nothing will hurt anything. All LED's are are high intensity light "Bulbs" that use less juice.

My front turn markers are LED and the rear parking lights are LED. In due time, all lights will be LED except my driving/head lamps. If we get together Saturday night downtown, I'll let you look at 'em and make your descision.

I have tried many brands/styles of 1157 LED Clusters. They look nice from about 3 feet away during the day or 50 feet at night, but they are much dimmer than stock bulbs.

I used semi trailer led lights with built in regulators. They are full bright between 7-16 volts. Both my SVXs have 11 volts or less at the taillights, not enough for the 12V 1157 LEDs. They save money making them by not including a regulator, so to prevent LED failure (and avoid fulfilling their lifetime warranty), they string all the 1.75V LEDs in series (usually seven) requiring 12.25V for full brightness.

I have a huge collection of 1157, 1157A, 194 LEDs that I have purchased and tested on the SVX. If you want to re-wire your harness to provide enough voltage back there, PM me and I'll give you a great deal on them.

Otherwise, plan to open up the taillight to mount true LED clusters.

I switched to an electronic flasher and removed the "Stop lamp" bulb from the guage cluster. The system works perfect.

I have had LED "light bulb" assembllies that fit in like a stock light bulb would, and I did get the brake lamp light as soon as I installed them and pushed the brakes. So, I just pulled out the little light bulb in the dash behind it...
