broken window assembly

hey im a regular member now! :D
anyways,
my drivers side window has been non functional as of late, due to a little plastic piece that has been broken since a month after I purchased the vehicle last december. My good friend (ex-boss, ex-stepparent, 10 sec. Nova all engine) rigged something up for it which worked well until my friend borrowed the SVX and unrigged it. the little broken peice cannot be replaced without the whole assembly coming with it for oh, about $150, plus labor. being the cheapo i am id rather rig something else up.

heres the problem:
upon inspection i found the cable was off track, and pulled way too far up, as if someone held the "up" position after it came loose. i had a little mirror on a stick handy and a camera so i took some pics of what appears to be a "make window non-functional and have to take it to dealer to fix" device. its a little silver button or switch sticking through an opening on the main spindle that is preventing me from reversing the cable back out to where i can thread it back on the track.
does anybody know anything about this?
i have two pics. one of the "silver nub" and another of where the plastic thing that holds the window should be.

Take the door panel off, lift window manually and place the cable back on the track. The little lead piece molded to the cable is there to block it from going back too far.
There is an adjustment for the cable tension at the beginning of each cable - closest to the motor 1 is in the bottom of the door - right befire the cable hits the pulley to turn upward- you'll see it when you have the door off - you need to tighten it up so there is more tension on the cables or they will pop off the track again.

If you haven't taken the door off before - 2 screws at the front - very visible, 2 screws in armrest (under fabric piece if you have one) and 1 under a woodgrain piece under the door handle. Pop them all off then pull the base of the door panel away from the door and once it pops off lift upward.

door has been off since yesterday.
um kk, i think i can retrack the cable.
however the window control (up/down) is nonfunctional. something is preventing it from moving. in the first pic its that little silverish round thing poking out of the faded plastic thing (motor pulley) behind the black area. thats the up position in the pic. pressing the window down button makes that nub slam into the left side of the gap of the reflected image of the black area.
the pic is fairly high res so if you have XP save it then zoom in if you cant quite discern what your looking at.

any and all help is very much appreciated. thx!

Hmm - hard to tell whats going on then. Have you checked where the wire winds onto the motor - maybe it has tangled up.

NikFu S. 07-20-2003 01:22 PM

yeah that was my first guess, but its not tangled.
how do i operate the adjuster for the cable tension?
all i see is a little plastic thing that slides around. ill try to get pics that can tell a better story.

The adjuster works the same way you'd adjust gear cables or brake cables on a bicycle.

i took some new pics. weird thing though. i was watching that nub go back and forth a couple times and what happens?
it pops loose. not sure why. hell im not complaining!.
still ive got the pics in my locker among other things.
thx
