It's true. Mine was FWD when I first bought it and was getting 30 or better.

I got 28 on the highway with about 150lb of tires in the car with me and mine's AWD.

I got an honest 28-point-something in my silver SVX on a recent 250+ mile road trip, running at pretty brisk clip the entire way, with some stop-and-go work thrown in. Figure 30 would be easily and consistently attainable on the highway, given a lighter right foot.

The seller is a member on here "fldcar" (Fieldcar) and has had many SVXs. I didn't know this car was back on the road. I saw it a few years ago.

Re: 30 mpg svx

You guys must be kidding me. Really ? I can't mustard more than 25 mpg on the highway. I have never drove another svx, and mine I thought was running like a top. At idle its smooth as silk, like the cars not even running. Press the gas and zoom zoom all the way to redline. I have no idea when the last tuneup was, but maybe it is indeed in need (164,500 miles on it). I had noticed that on rainy days it is a little rough between 1700-2200 rpm, until it warms up. But even then it seems to take like 10-20 minutes to shift to top gear? Maybe my svx isn't in top mechanical shape like I had assumed.

You guys done any mod's that would have contributed to the mpg? or is everyone getting close to 30 mpg on a well tuned svx?

I would believe 30+ on the highway is more than possible as many here have seemed to already been able to attain that. Also before my high clutch went, I was getting 22-24 mpg with city only driving. Compare that with the 17mpg city rating it was given

I got 30+ mpg in my '95 the day I bought it and probably would have gotten even higher had I not been playing around alittle :D;)

The stock 3.54 gearing is actually most efficient between like 90-110 mph.

I'm sure cruising steadily at 70-75mph would net you right around 30mpg

I am averaging over 29 mpg over the past 50 weeks and 29k miles. My svx is special though.

I don't have the gene for driving for gas mileage, but recently gave it a try.

I started at 1300 elevation, drove 30 miles down to the Central Valley in California, about 100 ft. elevation. I drove down HWY 99, then filled up at the base of the Grapevine 302 miles later, before going over the mountain to Southern California. I ran the cruise control at 70 mph, in the Peacock Blue '92. The tires have very little rolling resistance, almost to wear indicators, and were filled at 40psi. When I refilled, after the pump shut off, I gave it another shot. 30.6 mpg. Granted, a short run, downhill, not a round trip, no inclines, not a real average mpg, etc, etc, but I've never reached 30 on a 'planned' segment before, I usually run much faster.

Dude I lost it when I seen this response!!!

That explains the low gas mileage ;) haha.. but we all tend to have that problem with SVX ownership :)

What was your mileage in the 92s? :D
What kind of driving returns a 29mpg average, or did I miss something

this mileage is in the 92. i should mention that it has a 5mt swap from a legacy 2.5gt. my lifetime average in the 97 is just over mpg.

my commute is about half 50mph highway driving. :)
