Where do the starter wires go?
I was installling the 5spd starter and I found out there are 2 wires from the positive battery cable i thought only one of them went to the stater and Clintons manule does not really say were the wires go itsbeen months sence itook it apart so kin of forgot so i was wondering were the wires go?

I didn't know that Bill Clinton is now publishing automotive shop manuals. :D :D

Clintons manule.

I have no idea on a 5-speed starter, but I'm willing to bet one is thick from the battery, and one is thin from the ignition switch (to energize the solenoid).
|
I know the that there are 2 wires one from the ignition and one from the battery, but the starter wire from the battery splits into to seprate wires, and i dont know were one of them goes.

sorry, I thought you meant at the starter.
I think you're gonna give yourself a forehead smack on this one(unless of course I've misunderstood again)...one goes to the starter the other is from the alternator via the fusible link, i.e., the charging wire. |
I found out that the extra wire is a ground wire its looked like it spliced out of the negative wire for the starter any idea to were it goes?

Starter Wire SWAG
My SWAG (sophistical wild a_s) guess) is that it goes to a floor switch to complete the circuit.
Example my 00 Legacy 5speed requires I nearly put the clutch through the floor board to complete the starter circuit. If you have access to an ohmeter and simple continuity check will tell you what's what. |
yeah ....maybe a nuetral safety switch for the automatic. I'm looking at the power distribution and I don't really see anything that splits except for a white wire. Looks like it goes to the alternator and a 45A fuse ............what color's the wire?
