amelia island concours d'elegance pictures

Somehow, I managed to talk my wife into letting me escape the clutches of my 3 kids for 3 nights to attend the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in Florida. What an amazing event! There was a very ecclectic mix of 300 motorcars present.

One of the classes was the beach racers. My friend from the Eastern shore brought out his 1922 Benz Mercedes aero car. Its a 19 liter total loss oiling system monster.

Evidently it was raced on the beaches of Denmark back in the 20's. 5 years ago they were invited to bring the car back to race on the beaches. They got that bad boy up to 120 mph on the beaches, some 80 plus years later! Pretty crazy.

Here are a couple of pictures from Amelia of the Rabbit and several other contraptions from Amelia.

regards

ken

What makes Amelia so interesting is that its not just the vintage stuff you never see, but its also the racy stuff you never see. The line up of Trans Am cars was thrilling. Hearing and watching those open headered muscle cars march onto the field was quite intertaining. And then you run into a 540 ssk meredes or 14 Thomas Flyers or a Figoni and Falaschi custom coupe or some wonderful duesenburgs.

I really enjoy the fact that you get to see Parnelli Jones's King Cobra or his Pikes Peak car or the 61 Ferrari 250 Sperimental and a 65 Ferrari GTO.

I was able to sneak into the show early in an all original 66 427 Cobra. That was a thrill. Especially when it overheated waiting in line!http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g3...7cobramelr.jpg

Awesome pictures....as usual.

We should talk some local SVX owners into joining us at Burtonsville when it warms up a little more. ;)

We'll be there this Sunday. Its starting to warm up. A buddy is bringing out his 67 Ferrari 330 gt. I've got an anniversary Contach that will be coming down sometime soon.

See you there!
