Needed: Crank shaft positon sensor !

Calling all cars, calling all cars ... APB/BOLO Wanted in the state of Tennessee: a crank shaft position sensor. Needed ASAP. I never got any indications on the dash that anything was amiss, but that's what my mechanic says it is. I had driven to a park for a pic nic with my 82 year old mother, car was performing wonderfully. After eating and returning to the car. I put the key in the ignition, turned it, it turned over and over and over and over, but would never start. A friend of mine swears it's the fuel pump ... me, I haven't a clue:confused: Please send me a PM if you have a CPS and how much. If you have ideas about what it could be other than the CPS, I'd like to hear that too! I was given to understand that those things rarely ever die, and, there would be a "check engine" light or some other indication....

PLEASE! Hep a bruthuh out!

Agree with the part where you think a CEL would pop up if it was the CSS. What does your mechanic base his opinion on ?

Personally, I have found the MAF to be the culprit in no start situations w/o a CEL ..did you download the error codes to see if something is going on there? Just for kicks, give the MAF a few taps with the handle of a screwdriver and then try to start.

Good luck

Thanks a lot for your interest and your advice. I don't know what he based his solution on, but he said the injectors were not getting any spark and he also said that he did a resistance check on the CPS and didn't get the reading he expected. He did have an OBD1, but did not have the Subaru adapter. So, I don't know if he tried getting a reading with wire leads and the connector or what. I think he has already pulled the CPS out of the car. I will call him and ask him to put it back in the car and then go over myself to check your idea about the MAF sensor. Thanks again for the input
