metallic wining noise

Hallo forumfriends

since a few days I hear a metallic wining noise when braking , but also when just letting the gaspedal up. It occurs mostly at warm engine . last time at an emergencystop it occurred briefly at standing still. It is not the brakes themselves, as we tried to figure out where the sound was coming from. It appeares to come from the center down under the car. The sound is defenately gone when speeding up.

Could it be the bearings of the driveshaft or in the worst case something in the 4eat?

Thanks for any help

Sounds like a cracked flexplate.

This means the end of the tranny?

No, but the tranny needs to come out to replace it. It's a sheet metal plate between the crank shaft the torque converter.

Be absolutely sure if you go this route. Quite a bit of work. So do more digging.

Does the noise increase and decrease with motor speed?

Hi

It only occurs when there is force from the wheels to the gearbox/enging. So when lifting the throttle and/or breaking
It is only when the engine/gearbox is on temperature

The sound is like a totally worn brakepad on a disk (here we say iron on iron)

It is not related to engine rpm's, just the speed of the car

I hope this helps a little
