YES! You CAN install a HITCH on an SVX!
Very, very cool! $280 (tax and parts included)! I can tow 2000lb if I want:

I wouldnt tow more then 500lbs for fear of my tranny spontaneously combusting.
|
Shouldn't this be in the MOD Section?:D
Let us know what you do 0-60 mph when dragging a 2000 lbs U-haul trailer behind you! Yeeehaaa!! |
Yeah ;)) no kidding! I'm moving to Florida next month from Seattle. It's quite the drive... Trailer + bike + stuff = 1000lb. The car supposedly tows up to 2000lb. If it dies on me I'll sell it along the way and buy some damn pickup. The tranny better last. As far as 0-60... it's not impressive with or w/o a trailer but I'm sure it would be in the qarter mile times :D I don't dare experimenting. I'd be pissed if my SVX dies even before I start the long drive!

I dont think the question ever was COULD you... but WHY would you WANT to... I mean.. its an SVX, not a MAC Truck...
|
Is it removable when you are done towing???
|
Nice clean install tuzem! Good luck with the move... :)

Have you found a trailer with the hitch low enough to the ground to be towable by the svx?
|
Looks good Nick! I know I've heard at least once over the years around here about another hitch on an SVX, but I can't find it. I did visit with one member in OR some years back that had a patron at his inn that drove a SVX with a hitch mounted bike rack on the back. He had the hitch installed specifically for carrying bicycles, not towing (didn't want the roof mount rack I guess).
Good luck with the long journey and the towing. Some of us just don't have the means to have multiple vehicles ready for any situation, so it's either try the hitch on the SVX or sell it and buy a truck. |
It should now be impossible to remole the mufflar with out cutting it out.
|
Yeah... it is all true. I'm moving quite far from where I live and I don't want to sell the SVX if I don't have to. Troy is right -- if I can't afford to keep up a truck and a car and a bike, why not put a hitch on my SVX?
Is it removable -- Not without a blow-torch. Am I plannig on taking out my exhaust -- No. Does it look bad -- Not at all (in my opinion anyways...) Will the tranny last -- I'll keep you posted :D This is the trailer I'll be installing: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=90154 -Nick |
I, too was curious about a hitch for my 'new' SVX (when I first got it) for occasional towing and was poo-poohed by some for my innocence.
I would just make sure you've got a good tranny cooler and you've got some fresh synthetic ATF and you should be OK for what you want to do. -Mark |
i've never seen tranny fluid boil itself right out of the car before. ;) :D

I'm a little confused...
(what else is new....??)
From the pictures that I see, it looks like it's bolted on to your rear diff....??? Is there anyway you could show a wider angle picture from below? Thank you |
Mitch,
I'll try to back up my car on a curb or some ramps so I can get that wide angle photo. I don't think they could weld the support beam directly where it pointed (the differential) so they bolted another piece at the end of the beam ( the 45-degree angle you see i the photo ) and that new piece is what got welded on the frame. I'm also confused but the setup appears to be very sturdy. I weigh 220lb and the hitch didn't bend or even sqweek with me bouncing up and down on it. I'll see about this photo. -Nick |
