I visited my car today at the paint shop. It is coming along very nicely. They say it should be done in 2 or 3 weeks.

More pics in my locker under "Paint"

Oh, man. That's scary looking. Hurts just to look at it. I'm sure it'll come out nicely, but, lookin' at a bare naked SVX just gives me the willies (good grief, I just used "bare naked" and "willies" in the same sentence).

Meanwhile, make sure that they mask off your fender wells. I got so ticked when I got mine back from the paint shop with overspray on my black fender wells. There's just no reason for not taking the extra to drape off that section while covering the tires.

I took the fender liners out before I dropped the car off. :) I recently had the other car painted. I am a pro at this now. ;)

now that mike's a 'pro'.... just sitting back until his svx is done.... and waiting on the tips on getting a nice paint job for cheap hehe

I will profess my ignorance of this process by asking the question - why does it take so long to paint a car?

As I said, I'm totally ignorant of what really goes on here - my total experience with painting cars was my father taking his '63 Olds to Earl Scheib for the $29.99 special.

First of all, the place that is doing it isnt exactly known for speed. Secondly, They have to fix all the bad spots on the body... scrapes, dents etc. They have to sand all that down then, primer those areas, then paint the car. Then after that they have to wetsand the car to make sure the paint is completely smooth. There is about 2 or 3 days in between when the paint is finished and when they can wetsand it (apperently).

Also depends on what kind of paint, how many layers, clearcoat or not clearcoat, etc etc etc.

Reminds me of when the wife and I spray bombed her '88 suby wagon with red rustoleum. Amazingly enough, a year later we sold the car for more than she originally paid for it.

That also reminds me - we used to have matching red suby wagons, now we have matching ebony svx's.
