Good day for mods yesterday

Lest ye all think I'm too much of a stock boy, I decided to implement some long-owned mods in anticipation of next Sunday's Detroit SCCA Season Opener AutoX. As there is some measure of showing-off at these, I installed the following:
-Koni/GC coliover set-up with gunmetal powder-coated strut bodies
-New strut mounts for al four corners
-15 minute mod (my Reading raffle selection-Thanks Tom!)
-Stebro muffler
-Clear corners

I tried to install a Prodrive steering rack bushing upgrade, but unfortunately, the busings for a WRX do not interchange and will be returned.

Still to be installed this week:
-Porterfield brake pads on freshly cut rotors
-New front sway bar end-links

Soon to be installed (aka, not purchased yet):
-SS brake lines
-Sway bar bushings
-Full Sparco 6 point harness set and upgraded throne...Recaro, Sparco Evo XL (for the, ahem, husky racer :D )???

I also have to complete the 60K service and will add a Perrin lightened crank pulley I got cheap and finally mount my Hella horns when the compartment is clear.

With this, I'll still be at the bottom of the STX pile here in Detroit, but should make a better showing than I have in the past (fingers crossed).

Good luck with all that.

Are the endlinks stock SVX or something else??

wawazat?? 04-30-2007 10:11 AM

Upgraded from a company called PowerGrid, Dave. They use a high-quality end-link design that is used in industry from company named THK. PowerGrid is local to me and I hope to have them in my hands this Thursday. I hope that the new endlinks and the new strut mounts (with 2mm spacer in top of strut rod) cure my front end rattle.

Removing and replacing the Koni/stock spring assembly with the Koni/GC assembly wasn't a bad job. Forgetting the ground clearance of the SVX with the Koni/GC keit when set at it's lowest setting made getting the jack out from under the car when off the jackstands...interesting:o

Todd:
Based on your current upgrade, I take it that dual adjustable Koni shocks are now a lost cause. Congratulations on all your mods and good luck in the AutoX. Sorry I missed you (and eveyrone else) at Reading this year. I"ll post some pics from Kazakhstan in a couple of days.

Hello Dan,
Sorry I missed you as well. Thanks for the positive thoughts. I was looking forward to talking to you again :). How was Dubai?

Actually, they are not dead and in fact I spoke to Bill's friend Gordon at Koni about converting D/A inserts for use with our car and now have a solution for trapping them in to the body of the strut. I showed it to Tom the Younger at Reading. I'll post a pic in this thread or revive the old Koni thread and place it in that. The S/A units I installed have been built for a couple of years now and I just got around to installing them :o :o

Todd,
!##&! Now I'm really ticked I missed Reading:mad: :o I'm very interested to hear what Gordon had to say and what model # D/A you think will work.

Warning Will Robinson Thread Hijack.

Bill:

You missed Reading? What a bummer. Thought you were all set. Thank goodness the credit card I had guaranteed the motel room that I transferred to you, had been canceled due to a card hijack. Otherwise, I would have bought the room I thought you were taking over. Oh well, no harm, no foul. Hope to see you next one if not sooner. Maybe I'll have to try one of those AutoX things. :)

The mods sound great. It always feels so good when you finally get around to doing some needed work on the car when you know it should have been done way before now. :D :D

busy boy huh Chad?? :D ;) Glad to hear you go this much work done, also glad to hear you are making Bill feel even worse about missing Reading:D ;) Let me know about the D/A Konis when they come up and I may be interested but right now I am very happy with my singles.

Would those, by chance, be the same Koni/GC coilovers you had assembled when I visited your place about, ohhhhhh, 3.5 years ago? If so, I'm glad you finally got them on :p

Hey Todd, I see you have a Stebro muffler.....Is it just the muffler (tips included) or the whole system. I was quoted 1100 for the system, but I would like just the muffler. Can I get just that and for how much?
Also, is the rest of your exhaust system stock? and how's it sound?

Sorry for all the questions.

wawazat?? 05-02-2007 12:03 PM

Yup, Mat those are the same ones:o :p

Matt, I bought the Stebro muffler from Beav for a great price a couple of years ago. Just the muffler. I haven't fired it up yet as it's an extra car and it lives the life of luxury these days:D. The balance of the system is stock for now. I've also been waiting on bump stops from Koni before a road trip as they STRONGLY advised not driving it without them. They arrived yesterday and will be installed tonight. With that I can then go racing through school zones and playgrounds at insane velocities for my "test drive" (please note: j/k above:rolleyes: :) )

yikes....more like hell on wheels....LOL

Ok, I may see what stebro want's for just a muffler....probably pricey, but I do not need anything else as my system is stock minus the center resonator.

Flowmaster and magnaflow do not make a muffler such as ours do they?

Good day for using the mods yesterday

The Detroit Region SCCA season opener was yesterday. With 215 people registered:eek: it was a LONG day (got to the event at 7:20am and left at 6:15pm). I run STX originally due to 17" wheels and tires but now due to the Koni/GC and other bits. While I was soundly beaten by two very nicely modified WRX's (over 3.5 seconds separated 2nd place and my best time), I did take third place:)

Not bad for the slushbox equipped nose heavy beast that she is:D

I did this event on my heavier wheels/RE-070's which have a very different character from my STi BBS/Hankooks. Next event will be on these wheels/tires plus a few more things to further separate me from 4th place.
