Lubeguard Tranny Additive

I have been hearing more and more about the positive qualities of Lubeguard Transmission Additive. Hot Rod TV and a couple of other respected shows in this arena are endorsing it with high praise.

It is supposed to chemically combine with the fluid to keep temps down 40 degrees overall. Supposedly it is available at NAPA and all good transmission shops.

Just a sample of one site I found on the web, searching for lubeguard.

Beav had recommended it a couple of months ago and Napa even had it on sale so I put it in all of my vehicles. They also have a power steering additive that I used. No problems so far after two months of use so its got to be good!;)

I have used it

I put it in my tranny when I changed the filter and fluid. I have noticed a difference in the way it shifts but it is hard to say, it could just be the fresh clean fluid and new filter. It seems like it grabs alot harder in power mode now. I do not have a tranny temp guage so I can't say if it helps keep temps down---but I can say that I put it in my tranny about 2 mos ago and it has not exploded........yet   :D

Did you guys see the post a few weeks ago on this where all these additive companies were being sued for flase advertisement by our government?

I wouldn't put LubeGard in the same class as other additives. Did the report specifically name them? If I recall correctly LubeGard is endorsed by more than one OEM.

i'll take your word for it, Beav. i'm gonna try and find some.

They have a website at (of course,) www.lubeguard.com

Also check out http://www.artsautomotive.com/snakeoil.htm. Their comments seem like they think it really works, and this is a site that "exposes" product overstatments, hoaxes, and plain fraud. It sounds like there may be something to it.

I posted the FTC lawsuits list. Lubeguard was not on the list. It was Prolong, STP, Z-max, etc with claims to better gas mileage, less wear, prettier girl (or boy) friends, etc. - the usual miracles.

I have no knowledge of Lubeguard except that Saab endorsed them for some specific transmission issues. If I remember correctly, they endorsed Lubeguard red.

Lubeguard can usually be found at Napa parts houses - I've seen it there locally.

I'll pick some up this weekend and have it added at my next flush. :)

To tell ya'll the truth, I have little experience with it, but it is the only thing that cures chatter in some trannies. Every tranny shop we work with recommends it highly.

When I went to the dealer for advice on the chatter my tranny is doing the lead tech said he'd recommend a flush and an additive they use that usually cures it before diggin into the tranny itself. I didn't ask what the additive was but am willing to wager that it is the same stuff discussed in this thread. I will ask and let you all know if it is.
