Mount Diagnosis

I think a mount in my drivetrain is getting soft. What is a common mount to go bad? When I shift from R to D it seems like there is too much movement, when rolling in D downhill with my foot off the gas pedal then pressing on the accelerator it feels like there is slack? The motor mounts look OK any suggestions on how to pinpoint this.

It's probably the trans mount. They are a composite structure of metal and rubber and the bond between the two fails over time.

Does your car make a thump when shifting from P to R?

New mounts typically run about $100 plus labor to install.

Can you tell from the appearance if it is bad? If it is the mount that cradles the bottom it does not look as though it is worn out in fact I think it was replaced a few years ago.
