JDM engine interchange
Hi!
Does anybody know, can i plug-and-play JDM engine to my USDM 1994 Lsi? I know that JDM ECU is different, and there is no EGR on JDM, so: 1. Will it works on USDM ECU if i plug all USDM gauges, exept EGR, to JDM engine? 2. Or i must plug all USDM gauges (include EGR) to JDM engine and only after that it will work? Please help, it time to think about engine interchage because of knocking noise from crankshaft( Thanks, Gleb |
Re: JDM engine interchange
I have run a JDM engine on a Euro TCU before. It ran fine but gave an error code for faulty EGR system. I expect the USDM ECU will do the same.
You could either fit a JDM chip in your ECU, or fit the USDM EGR to the JDM engine. |

Thanks for replys!
I`ll think about all variants |
Re: JDM engine interchange
A 94+ USDM ECU will throw a code if it doesn't see an EGR temp sensor and solenoid (92-93 did not have the temp sensors, but will throw a code if the EGR solenoid is missing). It doesn't matter what the reading is, it just has to be physically plugged in. You could use the JDM engine, and just take off the intake manifold, swap the wiring harnesses, and plug in the EGR solenoid, and temp sensor. As long as they are plugged in and the EGR solenoid can move back and forth, it will function. Plug the lines on the EGR solenoid so it stays clean.
