exhaust setup!
Hi, I just finish my new exhaust setup, but Im not satisfied of the sound.
Oem manifold, 2inch in ar20 resonator on each side going in a magnaflow Y pipe ,out 2.5inc to the magnaflow axelback( 2.5in) The thing is it very loud, I can saw a little gain in high rpm but a lost in low rpm, and it sound restrictive Im gonna do a video to show you, But I think the solution is to replace the magnaflow y pipe for a cat!? |
Re: exhaust setup!
Hello
There have been a lot of discussions of exhaust over the years. I think mainly because so many people are unsatisfied with the results of what they have tried when they replaced their stock setup. I too have been where you are now--unhappy. That low tone drone at a particular rpm as you cruise or that resonance that seems impossible to get rid of really detracts from an SVX. It sounds like you want what I wanted and now have. Quiet and when you get on it it sounds like a caged beast instead of a weiner dog yapping as loud as it can. Unfortunately my system is completely different from yours so you would have to completely start over to accomplish it. I have the OE exhaust manifolds with heat sheilds. From there I have all standard 2.25" pipe. Right after the oxygen sensors I have magnaflow 2.25" stainless "pre-cats." It's hard to find the part number for those and I don't have them off hand. They aren't listed in their universal parts catalog; they are in their application specific catalog. They are much more compact than their regular cats, even more than their spun cats, and they are economical. Where the pipes come together in the OE system with a big cat and resonator I have a magnaflow cross flow muffler which is kind of like an x pipe inside of a muffler. That means you have two in's and two outs. The 2.25" pipes go back to a 2.5" dynomax super turbo muffler on each side (the 2.5" mufflers are much higher flowing than the 2.25'). I used the OE exhaust tips. That set up I can guarantee is quiet, resonance free, drone free, and sounds high performance when you are on the gas. |
Re: exhaust setup!
ok, sound like a good setup
After driving the car im accustomed to the sound and the car seem more responsive for the track its perfect but on the road I shift at like 3000rpm:lol: the sound in the car http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u432eooJX3k I gonna do an outdoor video The only thing I replace my o2 sensor with 2 denso one. After my first day of lapping on the road the check engine light pop on(LH o2 sensor inoperative) Wiring are correct, sensor is brand new..so I gonna need a 02 sensor spacer? If I shut the engine off start it again, the cel is gone for a while |

My exhaust setup has 2" headpipes from the engine to the AR20 resonators. 2" pipes from each resonator to a dual 2" inlet Magnaflow 94037 main cat with a 2.5" outlet. 2.5" pipe from the resonator into an AR25 resonator, then 2.5 " pipe back to a Bullet transverse muffler. Super quiet at idle, with just a hint of deep resonance; and very quiet under light acceleration. Under heavy acceleration, it is deep and strong, without any resonant droning or harshness. (Later replaced the AR20 resonators with Magnaflow small cats because of an OBDII issue. Sound has not changed) http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/atta...1&d=1375572641 http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/atta...1&d=1375572641 http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/atta...1&d=1375572641 Sounds almost exactly like this comparison video by AWD, Inc., who installed the bullet muffler. . |
