DrColorchip Touchup Paint System

Just thought this would be great thing for those of us with "Road Rash" or multiple stone chips. Almost too good to be true.

OEM colors made fresh... no clearcoat needed... no blobs

http://www.drcolorchip.com

I saw this in person this afternoon at the Lexus dealership. I watched as a front end of a Land Rover had stone chips disappear right before my eyes in less than 10 minutes. When done, they were pretty much invisible to the naked eye.

Svxcess and his critical eye was duly impressed with the outcome and will definitely add this to his detailing arsenal ('cause Reading's coming)

The Wall Street Journal did an article testing 5 different paint repair systems, including Paintscratch.com, and rated it DrColorchip as their favorite. The excerpt said:

"Our favorite kit, Dr. ColorChip Basic Paint Chip Repair Kit, required the factory color code and VIN number to order online, but no password. The kit included one rubber glove, five fluid ounces of paint, a small bottle of Pre-Fast blending solution and what looked like an eye-shadow brush. The instructions begin "Paint! Dab! Remove!" and incredibly, that's all we needed to do. We painted the chip with the eye-shadow brush, smeared it with our gloved finger, and then polished around the area with an old cloth. The kit is designed for use with "road rash" or little, round nicks, but the technique worked well with longer scratches, too."

I'm always wiery about these and would rather just repaint the stone blasted part if it's real bad because you can always still see where the chips were if you got a good eye. But if you give it an O.K. John it must be good.

Would it last after you wash the car?

Here is one of the FAQ's from their site:

Does the paint provide a permanent repair?

Yes- as far as we've tested- 8 years is the longest repair we've monitored, and the repair looks the same as it did the day it was applied. Most touch-up paints shrink up over time after they've dried and cured. Our paint does not shrink. It should remain the same as it appears after application for years to come.

I must get that then for the Z. Some A-hole keyed the sides a while ago and I never knew what to do about it.

Paintjobs sux around here and I don't want to loose the original factory paint anyways because of the severe weather conditions.

EDIT: "Key Scratches - We dont recommend buying our kit soley for fixing key scratches unless the vehicle color is dark, and the scratch is short and deep. A long key scratch on a light silver or gold car will show almost no difference, even if the paint completely fills the scratch. However, if you are not inclined to pay for a body shop repair, the special brushes in the kit will help you make the best repair possible."

I'll have to remember this...My car got raped by a couple good rocks to the hood a little while ago, and the only paint I've found that matches factory Ebony is a small Duplicolour rattle-can.
