Key codes from VIN Number
Five years ago I had a Subaru blank key and went to the dealer and had them cut a key by giving them the VIN number and got a "True" original key made. The dealer had a tool that cut the blank instead of grinding the blank.
I have another blank I need cut. Recently went to a dealer here in South Carolina. They parts department said they were unable to bring up the key codes first of all, and second they didn't have the tool to cut keys. Anyone had difficulty getting the key codes from Subaru lately? |
I just had 2 new keys cut from Subaru by giving them my vin#. I had no problem.

Keys made at dealer
I think for some of the earlier models Subaru may not have the "key" information needed to make the key:(

My husband actually works in a Subaru parts dept., and when he went to make a spare key for our newly acquired 92 LS-L he couldn't bring up the code either because it wasn't entered into the system when the car was first sold.

If you have any of the original keys, the code is stamped on it though. |
The code is also stamped on the back of the driver's door lock cylinder.

The odd thing is that five years ago a Subaru dealer was able to bring up the key code, but now I can't get a dealer to bring it up.
Has the information have been purged since then?? |
