Rocky Mtn Radar RMRc430

I have a connection to sell these for $180 shipped. One of my professors is a consultant to them and got me one. It has been absolutely great for the 9 months that I have had it. If anyone is interested let me know.

It says "scrambler" several times... Aren't those illegal?

If so, I'll start saving. :D

Seriously though, I was looking to drop $300 or so on a Passport or Valentine 1, any opinions if this is just as good? I had an "OK" radar detector before, and all it does is give a false sense of security - I think if you get one, spend the money and get a GREAT one.

I would never get one. A friend of mine is a police officer with the RCMP (Canada's national police force). He doesn't even turn the radar on until he can tell someone is speeding just by looking at them, so all you'll see in your car is a quick flash of doom on your detector, and then you're pulled over. He also said he has something which can detect radar detectors. I'm not sure that's possible, since a detector is a passive system, but he might be able to pick up a scrambler.

In any case, here the penalty for being caught with a detector is the equivalent of the maximum speeding penalty. With Ontario's new draconian speeding laws this means $2000-$10,000, and min 1 week without license and 1 week car impounded. Not something I want to experience.

That is not the case here in the states. They are illegal in some states (VA and CT come immediately to mind). I do not have this for the purpose of being able to drive 100 on the highway and then slow down when it gives me a warning, but rather in the event that I am in 80mph traffic on the Masspike in my red car. Police can say what they want about not picking out bright colors or sports cars but that is bunk. So, I have it to give me fair warning when I am simply in the middle of fast paced traffic.

I've heard radar detectors/scramblers don't work in SVXs since there's the bronze titanium-like( Idk what it is exactly??) inside of the windsheild.

Mine works fantastic...

they work, but the range is diminished slightly

The "radar detector detector" stuff, GVT-2 (Not sure about GVT-3) picks up the oscillator in the superheterodyne receiver used in radar detectors. Yes, they are a passive system, but a superheterodyne receiver radiates a signal due to the oscillator in it. However, the GVT-2 also contains a Superhet receiver, so they do have radar detectors that will pick it up and shut down, sort of a radar detector detector detector :-P

My Valentine 1 works fine attached to the windshield.....didn't stop me from getting a speeding ticket when a county cop was just tailing me one night near the house and not making use of his radar...i was in my V-6 Camry..

I appreciate the comments, but can we keep this for people who might want to buy one. Not for debates on what states they are illegal in or their affectiveness in a svx.

P.S. I know that tone of messages doesn't translate online so please don't misread this. I say this with as :) a tone as possible.

I've had one of these in my Claret for a couple of years now, and one of their cheaper ones before that.
And , I hesitate to say it, (because I do not want to tick off the Speed Gods)but I have not had a ticket in either of those SVXi for years!:D

Nock on wood!

I can not say if they really work, but as fast as I drive, and as many miles as I travel, I would/will buy another!:)

Hmmm. I'm seriously considering one, but I do need a few weeks to get the money together. I just had to get some paint done on the truck and I bought my clear corners...

Sorry Bobby:o

Thats the best price I've seen yet (new) for a unit with those capabilities.
I'm seriously thinking of getting one (and yes, I'm over 50:p).
