Tom,
I think the 8.5 width coupled with the 38mm offset is going to be a problem. This topic has been worked over in several old threads and I seem to remember that you're going to need at least 40+ mm of offset to get the 8.5 width to work without rubbing on the outside of the wheel.

Tom,
I thought about it some more and I seem to remember that the 16x8.5 from the 3000GT are being used by a couple of folks on the SVX site. They have a 46mm (?) offset and just barely fit.

p.s. yeah, I agree that it would have been nice if the rims would have worked!

if anyone knows the limits i can take the wheels to including offset and wheel width for 18" wheels please share the info

Thnx for the agreements i feel they would have suited the car nicely

Tom,

when I plug those specs into the following wheel offset calculator and compare them with the factory svx specs:

http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html

The results are:

The clearance from strut housing to the inside of the wheel will be THE SAME
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 26mm

These wheels should therefore 'fit'. However, wheels extending an extra 26mm outward (tad over 1") are going to really screw up your suspension geometry.

better question is, will it rub ahainst the body liner inside?stuffing wheels in there i have no problem with. I don't mimnd my suspension getting a little messy cuz i don't autoX my SVX. I just wanna make sure the wheels won't rub the car(in the rear)

I get your concern. The rear wheel well is kinda narrow. An Aussie member using -1.5 degrees of camber was able to fit some 265 sized rubber. An 8.5" rim is pretty wide, but my RX-7 wheels are 16x8" (with a +50mm offset) and the tops of my tires don't rub in the rear.

thats an 8inch wheel with a 50mm offset this is a 8.5 inch wheel with a 38mm offset. Add the 1/4 inch of wheel and then the 12mm of offset to the outside of the wheel and it would probly rub

Good point. Check out this gadget:

I know one can fit our hubs as Mazda 6 owners swear by this product when flaring their fenders to fit wider tires.

i was actually just trying to do a little repair/mod list in order of precidence and wheels are kinda down low on the list so it's no big deal right now

Chiketkd 01-25-2005 10:10 PM

Well, just so you can picture what a good rolled fender looks like, here's a close-up of the rolled rear fenders on a Mazda 6s:
