Engine Management Discussion.

I am trying to get some better control over my swap engine than just an Svx Ecu. I have seen all types of piggy backs and standalones, but have no idea what to look for. Can you guys recomend some good brands, types, ect... I am cluesless when it comes to engine electrical although I can tear an engine apart and put it back together. Also what programs do you guys recomend for tuning (before dyno tuning)? Thanks.

Apologies to Phil, but the Hydra has sacrifices to match its merits.

The support tends to be secretive, and when you ask tuners in our region about bringing it in, they treat it like a dead skunk. There's no way to export your maps and settings to read them outside of the Hydra software. The harness seems a little fragile (I had to reconnect one wire already.) The forum's weird, too - it converts select words into asterisks, like "software", "analog" and others I haven't figured out yet.

It is pretty well packed with features, though, and if you cough up the funds for the autotune feature it'll take care of a lot of the work for you. Plug 'n' play is nice, too, although the reach only allows you to place it where the OEM ECU was, and the Hydra's plenty bigger.

Ease of install? Sure. Existing maps? Yep. Manipulates like a large snake? Sorta.

I have the stock ecu under the pasenger side dash in my LGT. I have more room in there if needed or under the passenger side air bag cover. Lol. What are the benifits of having an engine management system like this. What can be adjusted? Is there a Engine Management 101 thread?

So what do you think about Megasquirt?

if ecutune releases an Ostrich based on the go flashing, it will be the end all of tuning problems.

But I don't see that any time soon.
