3.3 Long Block @ Cobb

I was surfing the sale section at Cobb Tuning today and I saw that they had a 3.3L SVX Long Block Assembly for $2000. It seemed like a pretty good deal to me so if anyone is in need check them out.

I saw that engine like 3 months ago. I emailed them about it asking if there is something in it which has been upgraded/modified... this is purely stock, they were going to start working on it, but dumped the project in the last secs.. :(

Unfortunately you can't get SVX long blocks from Subaru. A short block runs in the $1600 range so for someone in need of an engine, 2k for a long block is a heck of a price.

maybe this is a dumb question, but what is the difference between a short-block and a long block?

SubaruPartsGirl 02-21-2006 11:40 AM

Here you go...

Short Block - Just the engine, no heads.

Long Block - Fully Assembled Engine

Normally a long block would be short block + heads, valve covers and oil pan. No bolt ons, no intake manifold, no fuel system, no wiring, no pulleys, no belts, etc.

A fully assembled engine would be another major step beyond a long block.

At least thats how American engines have been sold in my experience. Maybe Subaru is different.

no, your correct. a longblock is just heads and shortblock. a complete engine assembly is a "fully assembled engine".

$2000 for a longblock is a good deal for someone that really needs a longblock. the EG33 is so bulletproof, unless you try to destroy it, no need.

I don't know - I think you could get a complete low mileage engine for under 1k easily.
Being that the 3.3 is so good I'd have a hard time paying 2k for one that is brand new and needs ac/ps/etc. vs. $600 for a complete 100k engine out of a part out.

I emailed Cobb about the engine a couple of months ago and got the same story....the problem is more the additional $$ it would take to ship it:eek:

I don't think it is new...

Hummm!

I might consider parting with my 2792 mile completely assembled engine for about $3500. It is still in the car. I am not sure I would sell it yet though  --still looking for that perfect body Liquid Silver to put it in.
