AWD Solinoid and Error Codes

Hello,
My babys in the shop. Aparently (well very obviously, thanks snow) the AWD is not working. During it's prior visit the Subaru Dealer said that solinoid C should be replaced. They did good work last time, and really seemed to care about the car. Now, I'm not sure if it's the same mechanic, but he's looking at it and he says that the've done some test and no error codes are showing up and the AWD seems fine.

Do you ever not get error codes from a bad solinoid C? Could it be my clutch plates instead? The AWD is just flat out not engaging from what I can tell. No shudder, not binding, nothing.

Hi Greg, yes the clutch plates can be worn out, or the transfer valve could be stuck, so that when the C solenoid turns it on, the valve does not move and the clutch won't operate. There won't be a code posted as the C solenoid is working OK.

The fix is to remove the rear of the box, and replace the C solenoid/transfer valve assemble, the clutch plates can be replaced at the same time. About $300.

Check subaruparts.com. Solenoid is in the "Extension" section and clutch is in "Transfer" section. (Both under transmission)
