Toyo Proxes 4

I was talking to Radial Tire today about replacing my tires with either another set of Yoko AVS db's or the Continental Extreme Contacts. Paul, the owner, asked me how I managed to pick the worst two tires on the market for the SVX.

He said that he doesn't even carry the Extreme Contacts anymore because of all problems he has had with them. Most of his customers came back after a couple of days and had them removed.

As far as the Yoko's are concerned he said it was an OK tire when new, but got progressively noisier after 20,000 miles. He even said it sounded like you had a bad bearing with these tires during the last half of their life.

He is very familiar with the SVX and what most of their owners want in their tires and told me that the new TOYO PROXES 4 was the best tire for this car, hands down. It is an ultra- high performance, all season tire.

Do not confuse this tire with the Toyo Proxes FZ-4, which is a completely different animal.

He has the Proxes 4 tire on all three of his personal cars, something he has never done before. He was very impressed by the quality, handling and most important the ride comfort and noise level. (For the record, he has a BMW 850 coupe, a Lotus Espirit and A Cadillac CTS)

Here are a couple of links to more information. Radial Tire is a no-nonsense, high-performance tire shop with a stellar reputation and I trust Paul's advice completely.

I found them to be rather quiet but they didn't last very long. Good handling also

Re: Toyo Proxes 4

John, I have this toyo tires (last design-one V tread) on my Mazda MX-3 GS V6, 5 spd (205-15-55 V rated). There are considered as ultra-high performance all season tires.

Well, I love this tire and it does look cool to me. Its overall performance to me on dry, wet, snow are very good. Quietness I think is good (but the MX-3 is not as quiet as SVX), ride I think is pretty good(but the MX-3 has a stiff suspension). I have been putting more than 25,000miles on the tires and they still look pretty good. I think at least will have 10,000miles to go if I don't spin or abuse them too much.

My Yoko Avid on the SVX, only 6000miles, the front tires look like wearing out faster than rear a lot. Heavy SVX?

I like the toyo, its handling is pretty responsive to me(confidence). I also heard the toyo is one of the least hassle tires on the market.

I also have to give a thumbs up to the Proxes4. We've put them on several customer vehicles and had excellent results with them.

I have to take issue with the gentleman's opinion of the ContiExtremeContact however, my experience with that tire has been quite the opposite. It's also quite interesting considering the thousands of people who have reviewed that tire on the Tire Rack site and given it very favorable marks.

I'm currently running Pirelli Pzero Nero M+S on my own vehicle with excellent results, pity they don't make it smaller than 17".

I run the Yokohama AVS ES100s on my Avenger. I like them a lot, but I dont know how they would do on a SVX.
