New Gauges Feeler
2 Attachment(s)
Obviously this is a project that will take place once the Cold Air Intakes are tested and on the shelves, however I've already designed a new set of gauges and had them approved, and all that it's waiting on is the cash, the new gauge sets would be a complete replacement for the stock unit, not just faces a complete replacement. They would have the cool sweeping motion on startup that the legacy gt's have. here is a video,
The youtube attachment is being retarded so if it doesn't work here is the video http://youtu.be/1kTt02d6Pm4 Here is a rough sketch of what I'm thinking Manual Gauges http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/atta...1&d=1305515882 Auto Gauges http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/atta...1&d=1305515902 Also they would be able to have a color choice available. Basically what I'm thinking is that the left knob would switch colors on the gauges and that the background of the numbers and tacs on the gauges be lit white and that all the red surrounds and the needles be what would be able to change colors between red, blue, green, or white. Here is a set that the company has done for the Escalade http://www.usspeedo.com/images/produ...6214723261.jpg Price would be $275 and would be a plug and play replacement. |
Re: New Gauges Feeler
Looks good but if we would be doing an entirely different setup, why not go with something a bit more up to date, like the one for the Escalade ? We could also add some additional guages while we're at it, right?

Re: New Gauges Feeler
only issue you run into is having every other gauge that you add getting the info needed to work, it can be done. Anything can be done, however if you add more info to display it will need an additional input, if you've ever taken apart your gauges on the SVX you'll know that there are two plugs in the back that basically give the gauge setup everything it needs to display. If we want to add oil temp oil pressure etc, it would no longer be plug and play and it would require additional wiring.

fixt your youtube link

Re: New Gauges Feeler
Okay, instead of hacking it up and adding extra things to the display, how about adding chrome and stuff like the Escalade then?
|
Re: New Gauges Feeler
Chrome surrounds and all that can be done as well, only issue is for each design I do I need to be able have about 10 made, so if we can get a good amount of interest in one or another then we can do whatever you guys want. Anyone else have any ideas??

Re: New Gauges Feeler
My 2 cents is that paying $275 for a sweeping motion on start up is probably not the best investment of $$ in light of everything that tends to be going on with our collective SVXi ;)
Now, replace the idiot gauges with accurate read out gauges and you've got something  -Bill |
Re: New Gauges Feeler
^^ This. More than dress-up, the SVX really needs functional bits. Surely, do what you like with TruSpeed, but your returns will be on volume before obscure glitz.

We can replace the left car image with a functioning gauge I/E oil pressure, temp. etc. etc. |

Re: New Gauges Feeler
Gonna pretend I didn't even see this thread till there's a shiny new intake under my hood...
Seriously though, a new gauge cluster is a good idea, but surely an oil pressure gauge wouldn't be that hard, and at the mileage we're all at, we could all use one. Better backlighting and the sweeping needle thing is a good start though. What does the little car circle on the left do anyway? |
Re: New Gauges Feeler
I'd be in for a set. I love the start-up sweep of newer cars and I've honestly been wondering how that could be added to the SVX for a couple years. If no new gauges are added I would probably incorporate a pair of Defi's into mine.

Re: New Gauges Feeler
Ah, well then that should definitely be a gauge on the M/T version ;). Since there's no A/T to have a temp anymore anyway.
What about the one on the right? Just whether any doors are open? |
Re: New Gauges Feeler
Open doors and the seatbelt light I believe. Also fairly useless.
