Check valve in the charcoal can?

With several of us at the Auto-X this past Sunday, I noticed that Ron's '92 (build date 1/92) has what looks like a check valve in one of the lines coming out of the top of the charcoal can (?) that is just to the left of the radiator (as you're facing the front of the car). Harry's '96 had the same set up. My '92 (build date 6/91) does not have the check valve. Did Subaru come out with a mod in late '91? Should I be going off and adding this piece (my guess is that it is to keep gas fumes from flowing back in the line).
Thanks in advance for the help on this.

A picture would help. Not sure whether I have one (or 4) or not. Is it possible to post a picture of one. Maybe not since you did not have one, but maybe someone else will. :)

Here is a photo of the canister (without the check valve) Most of the 92s I have seen have this configuration of two simple hoses into and out of the canister. See attachment

Here is the photo of the check valve configuration. Ron Mummert's 92 had it and most of the later years had it installed. I don't know when the changeover began.

maybe someone should set up a poll on this so we know years and configurations...

John

Do you have any thoughts about this check valve - whether it is needed or not. If it is a good idea to install - etc.

Thanks for the pictures. They are worth a bunch of words! :D

Ron Mummert 06-10-2003 08:41 PM

OK, John, the secret's out. That's not a check valve. It's one of my Ripimoff Industries' Mini-Turbo Charcoal Inhancer units. Yes - for only $79.95 plus S&H, you TOO can enjoy 4 wheel burnouts. You see, by boosting the air flow through the canister, the PVC valve is now operating in the full open position, and upon full throttle, a blast of pure charcoal filtered compressed air is injected into the....uh...that silver thingy on top of the engine, that connects to the....uh, the rest of the engine. Yeah, that's the ticket! Anyway, I guarantee 50 more horsepower, or I'll refund up to 20% of your money!
Supplies limited, so PM me me soon with order. Cash discount of 2% offered as an incentive. Add 20% for S & H. Delivery within 6 to 8 months, or add 50% for overnight delivery. Overnight deliver reduces shipping time to 4 months. Thanks for your support.

Dear sir,
Reference Cranky Pulleys.

I have noticed your charming advertisements. Could you please advise as to whether you can supply a cranky pulley for my Ôrod which will give me lots of horsepower and specify how many horses I will have to harness to my Ôrod. I will probably need a swingletree do you have these as well as the plow chains also required ?

Yours faithfully,

M. Maniac Esqu.

Ron -

If I buy a dozen of them, do I get a discount? I would like to start a franchise (string of your product stores anyway) and with one of these and a five dollar bill, I could get a cup of coffee! I think.:)

svx_commuter 06-11-2003 05:16 AM

The 92's without the check valve are faster. :D
The addition of this pollution control device lowered the engine power by 50 horsepower S.A.E. net.

YES!!! Buy'em by the six-pack & get another 2% off! Just add another twenty bucks or so for S&H.

Great! You can buy a dozen & put three in series on the canister hose of each of your cars. That's an additional 150 hp per car!!!
All I ask is that you provide a positive tesimonial for future buyers.
For every new customer you send me I'll throw in a free swingletree with the Type R plow chain option.

Ron (smelling fresh mounds of moolah).

SVXRide 06-11-2003 06:58 PM

Oh, sure, I ask a technical question and my thread gets turned into "The SVX Home Shopping Network":D
My lawyers will be talking to your lawyers about royalties on future sales of Mini-Turbo Charcoal Inhancer units:eek:

What a load of cr@p! I can get the same result by simply installing higher tension piston return springs.

Good try Mr. Ripper, I'll stick with the springs!

:Dps: can you ship them UPS Red for the same price?:D

svxeno 06-11-2003 09:01 PM

I almost forgot

You can get an MTCI for the STI but not for an SVX unless installed by an ASE tech to boost the PSI thru the PCV for higher HP ASAP when the ECU detects an open TPS.

whew!

Hi, my name is Earl, my SVX goes from 0 to 60 before I even start it. That is because I installed the famous "Ripimoff Industries' Mini-Turbo Charcoal Inhancer units". I put 3 in a series, which added 150 horse power to the engine which makes it "Unique" Ya, unique! These organic charcoal filters allow better draw and rid the smoke form - oh, uh, I mean rid the air of pollen and other harmful environemental residue! :D The price is cheap at half of the price. Who will step up and buy some of these little power units? If you don't like them, I will refund 25% of the purchased price so you can't loose! (very much). I can vouch for these because I have been paid by the president of the company to endorse them. I only get a free swingletree with the Type R plow chain option for selling them.

(how was that Ron? and all I wanted is a red crab whistle!)
