i had a really really bad oil leak comeing from the back of the engine. first thing that popped in my head was rear main seal but then i thought they dont normally just go out on a car with 82k miles on it so we pulled the tranny and out the colperate.

Ouch. Your flexplate is finished! Why did it cause an oil leak though? Should just have made a lot of noise...

Either way, the replacement piece and bolts from Subaru are quite cheap. And I'd replace the rear main seal while you're in there.

OUCH!!! that sucks... really sucks that you have to pull the trans to get to it also  Good luck with the fix

This is an example of "SH!T HAPPENS" ... as Chike mentioned, you should also replace the rear seal

Did it make some noise or just leak oil?

I've never seen a flexplate....I see the broken hole on the inner bolt circle, but does the flexplate consist of the two pieces as shown on his 2nd picture?
Or did his damage cause the piece to fracture almost in a circle??

it is just supposed to be 1 metal plate. and i replaced everything yesturday over all pullin a tranny isn't all that hard it is just a pain in the ass and very heavy. it cause my rear main seal to go in 3 piece's. a shard of the metal when the center was "ripped out" bent it back making it cut threw the seal like a knife and made it just fal out and was spinning around in there with my plate. when it went were a mile down the road from the guys house with the lift and when i tryed starting it the starter was just turning the tranny and not tthe motor. i will have pics of the seal and the shard of the metal tonight after i get home from work an showin it off now that it is fixed.

oh and it is fixed thank ya'll for sying good luck. it took us from 10 in the morning to 640 or so at night with an hour drive to SOA to pic up parts from my dad.
