Tranny swap questions
I've got serious issues with my entire driveline in my poor little LSL and have finally resigned myself to doing a manual swap over the summer. My rear CV's are shot, front and rear diffs are toast and the tranny is slipping like a mad man. It's time.
Here's the issue... No one seems to have a list out there, of what parts out of what vehicles are needed to do this swap. In this forum, I've heard of 5 spd and 6 spd swaps done.... but how? how long did it take you? what cars did you yank parts out of? Can we get a list going of all the compatible parts? Here's the first one... My 92 LSL has an ABS pump from a 1999 legacy, works perfectly! |
Re: Tranny swap questions
If I wasn't in class right now, I'd search for you, but I remember seeing a post that had all the info you needed about the 5MT/6MT swap. Just search the Technical forums? Check the Archives? (Do we even have archives?)

Re: Tranny swap questions
What is your budget? Are you more interested in longevity or having fun driving stick? Do you have any plans to up the power of the car?
One more: What is your mechanical skill level? Or what's the most complex car repair task you've done? |
Re: Tranny swap questions
Please do some searching, there are plenty of places where it is all spelled out for you. Namely the how-to for doing a MT swap.

Re: Tranny swap questions
Thanks everyone, I looked before i posted, but I'm not familiar with forums like this so I must not have searched correctly.
most complicated thing I've done? I did the clutch/flywheel in my awd outback... never done any swaps though. I'm not a noob though, i have professional training. just never encountered the need for any swaps until now. I would like to do some performance mods to it, yes. Eventually the idea is a turbo setup... but before i look into that i gotta get this car transferring power correctly, lol. |
