Lexus SC400 Comments/Impressions

I've not been around in a while, so hello to my old friends. Been busy with college, graduation, getting a job, moving, and all those sorts of things. Check marks in all the columns though. Anyway, I am looking at a 1998+ Lexus SC400 to augment the SVX. I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with them, driving them, servicing, etc. Any comments would be appreciated (especially from Dayle).

I always thought they looked pretty cool.
but I have never driven one or known someone who has so

same here.

more luxo than sport, though, and i always preferred sport. drop a Supra engine in it to make it a "Soarer" - talk to Dayle.

The SC300 is of course the inline 6 cyl
which was avail with a 5 spd (but hard to find
and fun to drive) my sister just sold hers !! dammit.
The SC400 is the v8, auto only.
Both are great cars, sporty, sexy and yes I did say
sexy, the v8 has great power, the 6 is similar to
the performance of the Svx.
I love them
love mine more :) since it came with the tt motor :D

My sister has a 94 Svx too
she had to sell one car
she sold the Lexus after like 5 yrs of owning it.
the Svx needs a trans
she still kept the Svx
shes such a svx lover
her b/f hates the svx...go figure :) haha

they have a huge following here, and across the sea

Since you're the "local expert" with these cars, are there certain things I should look out for when inspecting one? Like on the SVX, when I would test drive, I listen to the transmission, bearings, etc.

I believe Deruvian sold his SVX and bought one of these. He likes it.

i love teh old SCs. one would be in my garage if i had the means to own 10 cars (contrary to what alan would say).

Not really, just make sure it was maintained well
timing belt on schedule etc. They have little to few
common problems except for the normal wear and
tear that happens over the yrs, but of course no car
is perfect :)
this Toyota built car is well built.

Hey Ken, get one of the new Azura's to throw Alan off!

The 5 speed SC300 is nice. The 400 is too nose heavy. But it wasn't meant to be a corner carver. The new SC430 is fugly. How about a nice BMW M3? Karl will stalk you, but it's one hell of a car.

the azera is a very nice, but perhaps a little too big. it'd be nice if they put the 268hp 3.8l v6 from the azera in the sonata. teh gt was in for its 22,500 mile oil change the dealer's advertised price was only $25,999 for a limited trim level. perhaps i'll test drive one soon. my salesman's been trying to talk me into upgrading anyway. :D
