http://svx.knowfear.net has all the posts from yahoo groups now (or, 0 through 53516, ill try to keep up with new posts). So, if you need to find anything, stop by and check it out - gonna give it some time and see if yahoo lawyers stop by to take me out for lunch or something... if not we'll see about getting it moved over to this site, perhaps with a prettier interface.

Searches are a *bit* slow right now - about 1 second for a full query (on messages, subject searches are lots faster). I think the main reason for this is that I can't index a big text field with the version of mysql I'm running, so its doing a straight row by row search on the db. If I have time later today I'm going to upgrade to a newer version of sql so I can add the index and hopefully queries will speed up exponentially (literally).

Anyways, check it out, let me know if you break it (preferably with instructions on how you broke it too...)

Yippee! Yahoo.

John19688 03-05-2001 02:58 PM

AWSOME!

That is totally awsome! And it's fast. I hope this stays available as a resource.

Doh! But it makes my CD-ROM moot! :(

Oh well, I'd rather have it web-based anyway I just didn't have the resources to do it.

How did you download all those posts? I had to have a macro work on the site for days to get all the messages.

Actually my main reason to *not* want to do it (aside from the potential yahoo lawsuits, but eh) was I felt bad about duplicating your CD. But, I figure there will still be a use for a "hardcopy" of the db - I still plan to buy one of the cds when I get an SVX. Anyways...

I just wrote a little php script that went through the messages and dumped it to the db. Took maybe 3 days of total run time to get them all.

Great Job

Great job Sith, I to hope that Yahoo will leave it alone. How could they find it if nobody tells them about it?

Aredubjay 03-05-2001 04:00 PM

John, your CD is still invaluable to me. For times when I'm not online, and need to look up something, you're there for me, bud. Worth every penny -- of course, this coming from someone who may have to cough up in excess of 40 bucks for a coffee mug! D'oh! :)

Chris 03-05-2001 07:15 PM

$40 bucks!

Good grief! This mug better have recharable batteries that keep your drink hot! :)

SVX Mug

Chris, it's a "special" coffee mug - and I could have saved Aredub the hassle, but nooo . . . he just had to have it. ;)

Thank You Sith

Been gone a couple days.

That is the coolest thing I have seen.

Good job.

Mabe you could help me with something. I will E-mail you.

Aredubjay 03-05-2001 11:30 PM

You can still save me the trouble, Jerry -- there's still time to outbid me -- at this price, I hope to heck somebody does! :)

Aredubjay 03-05-2001 11:36 PM

When I searched the CD, I had over 4,000 posts on the Yahoo board -- out of 50K. I've probably added one or two more since then. Since Yahoo says that I retain ownership of my posts, I give my permission for them all to be used. So, there! That would cover the 0-ring replacement, spark plug replacement procedure and a few other goodies including links to pix of window regulators, trouble shooting chart, service intervals and some others.

John19688 03-06-2001 12:44 AM

Sith and Aredubjay

Sith -- Don't worry about duplicating the info on the CD. I'm glad it's available online. As far as law suits go...the Yahoo lawyers would send you a "cease and desist" request before ever getting close to taking you to court...and you'll probably never hear from them.

Aredubjay -- I might out bid you on that coffee mug. My plans are to take the design and make reproduction coffee mugs of these originals. That way, we can all own SVX coffee mugs and at reasonable prices.

Let's see...Yahoo can sue me for the posts, Subaru can sue me for the model, the coffee mugs and probably some other things...hmmm, who should I steal from next? Oh yeah, I've been amassing a collection of magazine articles on the SVX. I plan to scan them in and post them on my site so soon a bunch of car magazines will be able to sue me too.

Livin' on the edge baby!

John - great idea on the coffee mugs!

What did we do/not do to deserve you? :)

Keep on livin' on the edge!

Aredubjay 03-06-2001 09:24 AM

John, be my guest! It'll make Jerry and me both happy! Jerry, in that I won't get the mug, and me, in that I won't have to pay that much money for it.

joeaux 03-07-2001 12:01 AM

Criminey, That search flies! Great, can't say enough good things. Now, for the guys who run this place, a link to the website would be a wonderment. Man I really like this board, a lot. Can't wait till the 15th. NO MORE YAHOO!!!
