Membership purge time?

The recent discussion of putting together a map marking the locations of all us members got me to thinking about something else.

I know in the past the admins have purged the membership to reflect truely active members. We have over 1,400 members, but can anyone on here even think of a few hundred you have ever seen post?

All all for big numbers and such, but I'm also kind of an organization freak and like to keep track of things, etc. Yeah I'm probably being weird.

I just think our membership list might be a bit easier to deal with and a bit more accurate (especially if we start tracking locations, etc) if we cut off some of the "dead weight".

I think the criteria used in the past was anyone that has never posted a single time was sent a email asking if they still wanted to be a member, and if no response was given their log in was pulled. Might even be useful to pull log in's that have not posted in the last 2 years, or some determined time. After an email warning of course. My bet is there are a lot of dead log ins out there that don't even have valid email addresses any more. And certainly a ton of folks that no longer have SVXes and have no interest in ever talking to us again.

I know, once an SVXer, always an SVXer, but its a small handful of true enthusiasts that actually still hang around after they've moved on to other cars.

If you contact all the no-posters, and they have a valid email, and they reply they have a car, this shows where the cars are at the very least. It would be useful to have that information, and not much benefit to purge them.

If they do respond that they have a car, then I would not want to purge them. :)

It is just the ones that have never posted, and wouldn't respond to an email inquiry after say, 2 weeks, that would seem to be of no interest and possibly not even own an SVX.

I'd be willing to send emails, or whatever, if it'll help.

I agree with both of you. I was thinking the same thing. I think that it would be interesting to find out where all of the members are by state, or other locations. The problem is that if someone never even looks at the site anymore, or doesn't even have current information listed, the true number of members is not accurate.

The interesting thing about the number of members is that it keeps increasing, but there are very few new people who post. :)

I would be willing to help email too. Not sure that this idea will take off though, may be a bit to "harsh". :D Like I said, I'm kinda just a "neat freak" and equate our membership list right now to a big closet that hasn't been cleaned out in 2 years. :D

I would figure that if someone hasn't posted in a year and doesn't respond to an email, that they are no longer interested in the Network.

Good observation, Earl! It is some of these people I think Joe may be concerned about purging, we certainly don't want to boot anyone that just likes to listen. :) But I think if they don't respond to an email after a good grace period they probably have no interest. And maybe only target folks with 0 posts that joined over six months ago or something.

Exactly! :) This information can be had by looking at each individual profile, but the admins may have a easier way to do it. There are also some members that never "unlocked" their email so only the admins could reach them.

I think it is a good idea to purge members that do not post. This should help to save us some space. We should keep them on if they have stuff in there locker of value. Sending out e-mails is a great idea to see if they are interested still.

I think a lot of people become users after they buy a car or before they buy. Some don't get the car or keep the car.

So how do we go about purging members? The AdMin has to be apart of this.

Seting up a map of owners is a great idea also. Maybe that can be done through the register site. That has all the city, state, country info.

Just be careful with the whole purging thing. just because a member does not post does not mean that they do not log in and read everyone else's posts. The better thing to do would be to have the admins go through the member login records and purge members that have not been on the site in the past year. Granted you don't have to log in to read the posts but if they never log in then they don't need a membership do they.

As I think this out as I write, I guess by that reasoning it would not hurt to weed out anyone that hasn't posted in the past year. Ok...don't mind me...carry on. :D

While we are on this area of topic, I would like to be able to search for a member using any of the fields contained in the profile page. For instance, if I want to locate all the Pennsylvania members to invite them to meet together at the local Perkins, I could just search by location (which cannot be done right now) and PM everyone on the list. This should be very easy for Randy/Mike to setup. What do you think?

Awesome idea! I've always wanted that as well. At least for the locations.

You do have that ability on the subarusvx.org site, you can search by state and then email people from there. But unfortunately, not everyone registers on that site. :(

Or you can be like Earl and I. Earl keeps a list of all members in the NW that are interested in meets and keeps it updated. I have set up our own regional web site for NW members to check in once in a while for meet info, and to register themselves as an active NW member that is interested in getting together.

What does Aredubjay think??? Is the call up to him to make, or the site adminastrator???

WestCoastSVX 02-26-2003 12:30 PM

Last time it was done the site admin did it and let us all know ahead of time. I think he also emailed everyone he was going to get rid of. Depending how this discussion goes, I'm sure that Aredubjay can let the admins know what we want. This is certainly just a discussion at this point to see what people think.
