Won't idle after start...??!!
 

I'm starting to get the feeling to sell my SVX. I really don't want to, I like the car's appeal so much, but it keeps having this problem. Just today the car had the problem again. The problem is that when I start the car, it won't hold at idle... it just shuts back off. I had this same problem 3 weeks and $500 ago when I was driving it. But at that time I was actually moving and the car just shut off on me. So I had it dropped off at Subaru and they diagnosed it as some kind of Fuel electrical connection by the fuel filter.... so they put a new connection and filter in...oh and also I got a free fuel pump (Put long story short they mis-diagnosed the problem at first and put in a new fuel pump but that didn't fix the problem). So after I picked it up it ran beautifully....well for 3 weeks...and now I'm in Orlando going to UCF and the problem now happens again when I go to start it. The engine turns over and sounds like it's going to start fine...but then it just won't hold the idle and shuts off. So now I'm in Orlando, with my car being towed back to Jacksonville, and I have to bum rides. If anyone has had this problem before...please let me know what you know or if you are an expert at this technical stuff, an explaination would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you.
-The car is a 94' has 76,000 miles on it.

-This is the only problem I've had with it since I bought a year and a half ago.

If you do a search for keywords, you could find the answer, but I'll give you a *possible* solution. A couple of days after I bought my SVX, it would stall right after starting, and yeah it scared the crap out of me because I just bought the thing and now it won't run?! :eek: But it could be you just need to clean your throttle body; that's what I did and it hasn't stalled after starting since. Do a search for 'clean throttle body' or something. That could be the problem, but I'm not sure. Yeah. :)

Oh, what happens when, if it is about to stall, you just give it more gas? Maybe that's a temporary solution?

That was going to be my first guess, Garrett. Clean the TB first, then, if that doesn't help, I'd guess MAF sensor.

Yeah I've tried pumping the gas when I start it but it seems to have no reaction. It's like I'm not even pumping the gas at all. Basically there's no response to me pushing the gas pedal. This will be fixed by the Subaru Dealership then I'm strongly thinking about selling it.
