SVX super real sound system

Does anyone know any details of this system, and what all it had as far as equipment? The stock US sound system is pretty pathetic and I am curious what they had over in Japan for premium sound.

I believe it had larger front door speakers.

It appears to have an external amp, too.

I wonder what the possibility of obtaining these parts would be. Obviously, the US car is not wired for it, but it would be neat. I can't find a set of speakers that don't have an awul resonance in this car, short of some of the $900 dynaudios, which I am not even sure would be any better.

Re: SVX super real sound system

I have never seen any detail on this Super Real sound system for the SVX.

Have you any reason to believe or definite information to prove that the door speakers are bigger and there is a separate amplifier? It just seems to me they would not go to the trouble of redesigning different door cards, but I could be wrong about that.

A person who might know what the system has is Hairy on the New Zealand forum. Hairy owns an extremely sweet S4 Burgundy SVX. These came fitted with Super Real sounds system as standard. If his Japanese import still had the original system, he might be able to give you details.

BTW, just in case you are interested, I have a Japanese Owner's Manual from the time I had the two Twin Turbo Legacys. The top end system available for the Legacy was called the

"Legacy Super Real Focus Sound System [Kenwood]"

Now unfortunately the manual does not go into deep detail, they say "This system has its own user manual with the system"

There is a diagram showing that it is a double din unit. The description they give is:
"This is a highly advanced system with CD player, 120 Watt High Power Amp, DSP, AM/FM Multi Electronic Tuner, Full Logic Control Cassette Deck & CD Changer Control."

Difficult to read but written on the face of the unit is:
"SUBARU Super Real Focus Sound System GX-99"

Maybe the SVX uses the same unit. The handbook covers the Legacy from 1993-1998

Joe :)

I think Hairys car still has the factory audio equipment in it? Both times when I saw it at the car sales yard it had been untouched and that was before he brought it

Somebody sent me a picture of the "SVX Super Real Sound System". It appears to be just the standard JDM head unit with a different sticker on it. I don't have the picture any more.

Hi Phil

Maybe if Hairy responds we will have a better idea. The 'standard' system, which comes in a couple of guises, is normally a Panasonic unit, correct me if I'm wrong in this.

The "Super Real Focus" system, at least in the Legacy, is a Kenwood, a notable difference. It would be good to see a picture from a Factory S3 or S4 that has Super Real sound installed.

Email Ron for details. He's actually got one from an S3. It's just a standard JDM version Panasonic P411 with a sticker.

I don't know if that could be the case Phil. Panasonic rebadged I mean.

This "Super Real Focus" seems to be a tag line of a certain range from Kenwood.

They seem to be Subaru linked, and use GX- as the model code. There was a GX-99, and also a GX-606.

Joe,
The Super Surround Sound SVX is a single din panasonic unit resembling JDM and US. The front piece is interchangable. No one has proven that the head unit is any different than other Panasonic radios. The JDM freq. band is worthless in the States. The SVX stencil on the tape door is very cool!

Okay, here it is..................

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...f/DSC09341.jpg

The model number of the CD changer controller..............
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...f/DSC09340.jpg

The model number of the tuner/tape player................
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...DSC09340ii.jpg

I have a band expander on mine so I can use the tuner for local radio stations (you have to be good at maths when you want to tune in a new station).

Here is the bracket/cage for the CD changer in the boot (trunk ), unfortunatly the changer was not there when I bought the car and I can't find one (The one found in earlier cars is bigger and does not fit in the cage).

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...f/DSC09336.jpg

Because the CD changer is missing I have an adaptor to use an mp3 player through the tape player.

As for speakers it has 6, I am not about to start pulling trim panels off to satisfy idle curiosity.:p
