New to the SVX ownership!

just bought (on a whim) a 1992 suby svx! i came out to colorado to visit a friend, ended up getting a job, and in the breakroom mentioned maybe i should buy a car instead of a plane ticket home as i could visit people and such. ANYWYAS.

its maroon colored, it has some body damage to the back passenger q-panel. Engine runs well, starts up in the cold, has 179k miles on it.

best part? everything works but the cruise control, and i only paid 600$ for it, no, i didn't forget a zero or mistype, six hundred. :). it has tires with only 6k miles on it as well!

only thing i foresee that might be a problem, is that i can smell a little burnt oil in the engine compartment when the car is on

So! i guess i am now a proud owner of a SVX!

Congrats and welcome to the gang! May your transmission never fail you.

Try poking the cruise button repeatedly. Sometimes they get moody and only come on when they feel like it.

ive tried that, it does light up, but wont stay lit up :(. sadness. i can hear the click too of it trying to engage. o well. cd/tape player still work! and all but one of the speakers are good!

There's a ship?

the tranny was apparantly replaced after 100k miles, no idea where that leaves me

also, im getting like 10mpg city, im guessing because its really cold and im letting it sit and idle for like 5 mins to warm up? still seems a little low. Meh, i still love this new toy!

It'll help to get an accurate figure for your mileage. I get between 14-17 pure city, which is sticker mpg. If it's below that, you might need to replace your O2s, or maf, or adjust the timing or something, who knows.

I wonder if that was Deja's old car..

Unfortunatly, adjusting the timing requires a voodoo doll, a dwarf, two boxes of cleanex and a laptop.

Shame NikFu... SVX adjusts its own timing, and it will thank you to not interfere with that process.

I meant timing belt, ofcourse. But I wanted to see what someone would say. :D

Don't be too hard on him Patrick!:eek:

The rest of his advice was good. O2s and MAF are possible culprits.

Gearbox starting to slip would give bad mpg as well, but you don't want to hear that!

Short cold weather runs with everything on will knock it way back also, there may not be too much wrong with it, but I'd check if the O2s were all right first.

Joe:)

thanks for the advice guys! i prob wont be able to get it checked out till i make the 1.2k mile trip back home to wisconsin (Sconnie!!) in about 2 months, nothing that i see about it now indicates anything is "mission critical batman" like when my accords front rotors somehow warped overnight and nearly shook my teeth out of my head when i went to slow down from speed.
