tweeter not functionning
Hi!
My tweeters is not working. When I purchased this SVX one year ago, the door speaker was destroyed. Could the tweeter have been also damaged? I have looked at the tweeter and they seem fine to me. What I can check next? The radio? Thanks! |
Given the way the door speakers dry out, it wouldn't surprise me if your tweeters have done the same. There are plenty of sources for replacements out there.

How can I check if the tweeter get a signal from the radio? A voltmeter will work?

Try a multimeter - I'd check the resistance first to see if you've got an open or closed circuit.

the OEM tweeters have the Xover at the tweeter itself, so the lines going to the door and to the tweeter (in the kickpanel) are full spectrum...so, got any other kind of speaker (like home stereo or computer) that you can plug into those lines & see if there's output. The reason I suggest this is a voltmeter response might be misleading given the wide frequency range and dynamics of typical music. If you don't have a speaker to use and want to use a voltmeter, then if you have a CD-burner, make a track with just one frequency (say 1000Hz) - that way at least the meter will have something stable to average.

yeah basically what lee said .........you won't get a standard "4 ohm" reading from the meter - actually it'll probably be extremely high ......you just have to test em out with another source that you know is outputting some juice.

Lee,
I understand what you're suggesting. Wouldn't the multimeter still tell him whether the circuit is open or closed? -Bill |
